Belt trends Autumn 2009-Winter 2010

Accessories are important as they can change your image significantly: boost it one hundred times or absolutely ruin it.

This post is dedicated to belts, those tiny items of clothing which make us look slimmer, add chic to the garment we wear, distract attention from problem areas.

Belt is worn for practical purpose or just as a decorative item. But no matter what we wear it for we should be very careful when choosing the style of the belt.As any other item of clothes belts have styles and are not versatile for the exception of classic designs. So pay lots of attention to belts you select.

Now let’s talk about belt trends for Fall 2009-Winter 2010.

Jewelry belts. I usually start from classic designs but this time I want to begin from the most beautiful and sophisticated ones. Such belts look glamorous and tender and serve as nice decoration to an evening outfit. But you can wear it with your casual clothes as well if you wish to look feminine.

Jewelry belts are embellished with stones, metal details, clips and rivets.

Zac Pozen’s belts deserve special attention as they are ornamented with flowers, leaves, snakes and even drops of morning dew.

Belts of unusual design. These belts serve as adornments to your garments too but they are not as rich in details as jewelry belts.

They are all of average width but made of different materials including leather, wood, metals, etc. There are some interesting details decorating them, such as unusual flower-like buckle, strass patterns, extraordinary forms.

Fabric belts. They aren’t in plenty in designers’ collections but those which are in look great. Various fabrics are used to make them: satin, suede, velvet, silk. Some are decorated with sequins or beads.

The softness of fabrics allows to experiment with knots. They can be pretty ordinary or very complicated and unusual in shape.

Thin belts. This season very thin belts are in fashion. They come in a diversity of colors and materials and can go with just anything, from an evening gown to a pant-and-blouse combination.

Besides, such belts may be worn out of pants and above them.

They look amazing when worn over sweaters or t-shirts. So, it’s up to you to decide how you want to don your thin belt; experiment and you’ll find plenty of possible decisions.

Wide belts. If there are thin belts there must be wide belts as well. This season we see lots of wide belts which come in various hues, shapes and designs. There are many leather belts, leather-and-velvet combined belts, and even fabric-and-fur combinations.

And again there are many choices of clothes which you can wear wide belts with. They look fantastic with dresses, and no worse with coats and sweaters. One more thing to say here – many designers offer to wear belts a bit sideways, when the buckle is not in front but at the side of you.

Classic belts. No wonder we saw loads of classic-style belts which are absolutely versatile and one and the same belt can be successfully worn with everything you like. My advice is to invest into a classic belt while we still feel the influence of the recession and can’t spend too much on garments.

Belts are important and do a lot to complement our look. Keep in mind all the above said and rush for a perfect belt for your warm garment!
