Donna Karan Turns to ‘Forever’ Handbags

Following Ralph Lauren Donna Karan has also announced she created bags one could wear during lifetime. And again the reason for doing that is purely economic – financial crisis that makes people buy things they can wear for long.

The designer said:

I’m most passionate about my new collection of handbags. They are ‘forever bags’, handcrafted in Italy. Each bag feels good in the hand and instantly becomes a part of your look and lifestyle. When you are a city woman, like I am, you live out of your bag, which is why it has always been so important for me to get it right.”

It is good that some designers do want to meet ordinary people’s need in such a difficult time.

Not only accessories have been made under the influence of the economic downturn, but clothing too.

Donna Karan’s Autumn/Winter 2009-2010collection includes pieces that ‘can be relied upon in times of hardship and can be worn to any event.’

The 60-year-old designer explained:

Fall 2009 was all about strength and security – giving a woman timeless, sensual, tailored clothes that empower her and make her feel good.

When times are uncertain, you want clothes you can count on, clothes that will be here for a while, clothes that create a day-into-evening system with flexibility and sophistication.

I asked myself what women really love and live in and gave it a modern spin.”

I’d like all the designers to be so thoughtful.
