Bags for winter 2009 have one main peculiarity – diversity of style! It means your bag can be of any style but it shouldn’t be versatile.

‘Various bags for various occasions’ is a motto of all designers for this season. Bright clutches for evening wear, roomy handbags for shopping, elegant small bags for office – just everything you like, dear Ladies! Each bag has to be distinguished by style, colour, shape and, of course, its own unique character.
Well, let’s start…
Volumes and shapes
As we have already mentioned the size of your bag is not very important in this season. To be more precise, it depends on your personal preferences and role you have chosen it for.
However, this time designers advise us to avoid too big shopping bags that do not go very well with a romantic winter outwear. To add some volume to bags of smaller size couturiers used diverse pleats and drapery.
Vintage handbags are still with us. This time designers paid special attention to the models of 1960s – rounded, square and trapeze shapes. Bags of this style are ornamented with voluminous patch pockets, decorative straps or fringes.

The trendiest style is a clutch. You can find them nearly in every collection, and it certainly means there are clutches to fit any taste: strictly classical, unusual futuristic, vintage, embroidered or embellished with strasses.
Colours and textures
Couturiers have included a lot of black into their closing lines and it means we should dilute it with bright tints of our accessories.
As an alternative to black we can choose grey, which is among the favourites – silver-grey and sand-coloured.
Other hues are mostly bright and vivid. Emerald green and all tints of violet are a good choice for this winter.
Pastel colours are always popular and this season is not an exception. Pink-pale, light-blue, light-violet, beige, ivory and romantic white are the perfect colours for your winter bag. As well as in clothes the combination of two or more tints look very well.
Last season glossy surface of patent-leather bags attracted our attention at every catwalk. This time we must have a close look at suede and other patterned materials such as python or crocodile leather, goffered leather and fur.
Details and embellishments
Heavy ‘gold-plated’ chains, catchy buckles, massive zips, big-sized metallic embellishments are extremely popular this winter.
Small chains as décor details were in fashion last summer, this season designers decided to make chains more functional and we see massive long chains that serve as shoulder straps. Among other embellishment fringes, fur and patchwork are widely used.
These are the things you need to remember when choosing a bag for winter. And don’t be afraid to experiment – the brighter and more extraordinary the better!
