Zac Posen Dress Spring/Summer 2013

Zac Posen is desiging some wedding dresses for David’s Bridal. The designer’s famous structured gowns with dramatic drapes and skirts are often seen on the red carpet so David’s Bridal chose him to create a collection of affordable dresses with this appeal. David’s Bridal executive vice president of merchandising Catalina Maddoz told WWD:

We brainstormed for several months because we had a very successful launch with Vera [Wang]. As always, we were looking for what’s next. We were talking about dramatic red-carpet movie-star kind of looks, and Zac came to mind,

Zac Posen To Launch Bridal Line

The Truly Zac Posen collection will also include formal apparel for wedding guests. Initially there will be six bridal gowns in the price range between $850 and $1,350 and five limited-edition pieces for social occasions in the range between $195 and $225.

The designer created exclusive dresses for both Coco Rocha and Portia de Rossi but now his wedding dresses will become available at selected David’s Bridal stores as well as online. The sizes will range from 0 to 14 while bigger sizes like 16 to 26 will also be available by special order.

Posen describes the collection’s aesthetic as ‘glamorous, romantic, strong’. He says that he doesn’t like exagerated lacing or details on the dress but rather wants textures to blend and as he says ‘be discovered’ as one approches the dress. The collection also got a ‘blessing’ from Vera Wang who is a friend of Posen’s.

Zac Posen has also recently launched a new contemporary line ZAC Zac Posen that is somewhere between his main collection and affordable Z Spoke line. And the designer has created a replica of his $1.5 million golden dress for Rent The Runway’s “As Good As Gold” collection.

Sarah Jessica Parker To Launch Shoes At Nordstrom

Sarah Jessica Parker is finally going to launch the shoe line Vogue reports. Her ‘Sex and the City’ Carrie Bradshaw character and her extensive shoe collection has made thousands of fashionistas across the world both happy and envious. So as the actress herself notes:

In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw.

Partnered with George Malkemus, the CEO at Manolo Blahnik, whose shoes Carrie Bradshaw coveted and cherished in the series, Parker is to launch a shoe and bag line exclusively at Nordstrom early next year and will throw in some trenches to help create a full look.

It’s sort of soup to nuts. You put on a shoe and you put on a coat and you wear a bag and, on the outside, when you’re walking down the street, they really can tell the same story about yourself,

she says.

The shoes will be in the style of Maud Frizon and Charles Jourdan and will be produced in Europe and New York. The actress says the focus is on the unusual color combinations.

The price range is somewhere in the middle with $200 to $300 for shoes and under $700 for bags. Here’s what she had to say about what to expect from the bags:

And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.

Design is not a new field for Sarah Jessica Parker. She had her own fashion line back in 2007 and designed a hanbag with Kenneth Cole for amfAR. She’s been a recognized fashion icon for a number of years now and as she says thanks to her role she wore many pairs of shoes and ‘learned an enormous amount’.

Tilda Swinton in Chanel Pre-Fall 2013 Campaign

Tilda Swinton turns model for Chanel Pre-Fall 2013 campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld. The actress sports the Scottish-inspired attire and poses against the background full of medieval images. The actress looks absolutely stunning in a tartan detailed coat decorated with rich embellishments and a white dress with an embroidered neck.

Tilda Swinton Models Chanel Paris-Edimbourg Collection

The actress looks effortless as usual sporting her blond hair in an edgy style or combed back. Karl Lagerfeld said that Swinton was chosen as face of the collection because:

Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Edimbourg collection. She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance.

The collection that’s full of royal-worthy and somewhat costume-y designs is very extensive as usual comprising coats, dresses, skirt ensembles, and trousers made of plaid, tartan, and argyle-patterned fabrics.

The latest campaign comes after a series of ads shot by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel resort, spring, and eyewear collections. The latter was fronted by Laetitia Casta who attended the 2013 Cannes Film Festival along with Swinton.

This isn’t Tilda Swinton’s first fashion gig. She was chosen as face of Pringle of Scotland’s womenswear and menswear in 2009 and modeled jewelry for Pomellato brand. Besides she did a few very fashionable and artsy magazine photoshoots for publications like W Magazine, Dazed & Confused, AnOther Magazine, . As for her style, the actress prefers refined minimalism though occasionally can be seen in bright statement looks, which says she isn’t afraid of experimenting with fashion.

The campaign turned out beautifully, though I wished to see more of those dramatic dresses, oh well, the top image could be the only one in the campaign, it’d still looked great. What do you think about it?

A Look From Versus By JW Anderson Capsule Collection

JW Anderson finally revealed his collection designed for Versus. It was announced late last year that the brand and creative director Christopher Kane are parting ways and the brand’s taking new direction in creating capsule collections with emerging designers. JW Anderson was the first one to be chosen for the job.

I think Jonathan is a perfect fit for this inaugural capsule collection. In addition to being a talented designer, he’s well versed with the new digital world and is, therefore, an ideal partner for our new direction,

said Donatella Versace.

The collection was presented in New York last week gathering celebs like Melissa George, Taylor Momsen, Jaime King, Heidi Klum, Hannah Simone, and many others including Joe Jonas, Glee star Darren Criss, and designer Christian Siriano.

The star-studded presentation included a catwalk with both men’s and womenswear. The outfits were daring and yet androgynous, much in the style of JW Anderson. There were many dark colors but there are a few bright dresses and printed monochrome things.

Versus x JW Anderson Collection

Crop tops and ocassional lace can be seen in both dresses and men’s T-shirts. There are a few loose-fitting women’s blazers in the collection and some very unsual tops for men.

Versace is now to collaborate with “a very special brand” K-Way, which will create a jacket and an iPad case for Versus. But the designer says she will not to hold another fashion show for the brand as:

It’s getting really old to go to a fashion show, to sit down and then to go on the internet and think; ‘What did they do? What didn’t they do?’ I will never have another catwalk show again for Versus. Versus will be shown through events all over the world. I started with New York because it was there that Versus was born. I always connect Versus to rock music, because I love music, I’m a music addict – and we never have a soundtrack or a DJ, it’s always a live band performing for a Versus show,

the designer said.

Nicole Kidman arrives for a jury photocall before 2013 Cannes Film Festival

Nicole Kidman was recently announced as new face of Jimmy Choo. The actress fronts the Fall/Winter 2013-2014 campaign, which was shot last month by Mikael Jansson and will launch in August. The star said that she “always loved fashion and often use it as a way to get into character”. She also said that there is “a lot of complexity, mystery and femininity to the Jimmy Choo woman”.

Jimmy Choo’s campaigns most often feature models, but back in 2006 Nicole Richie was chosen as face of the brand and fronted an ad campaign for Spring/Summer collection. Supermodels like Natasha Poly and Karmen Pedaru represent the brand’s fragrances.

I’m such a great admirer and feel enormously honoured to be working with Nicole Kidman. Nicole is one of the finest actresses in the world, who I knew could convey the empowered glamour of the brand. But she is also so nuanced and refined; she brings an attitude of defiance, strength, sensuality and elegance,

said brand’s creative director, Sandra Choi.

Jimmy Choo has also done a few collaborations lately. This includes a Fun Capsule by Rob Pruitt and a limited eyewear collection Carrera by Jimmy Choo.

Nicole Kidman was also chosen for Cannes jury where she and other members along with chair Steven Spielberg will decide which one of the nineteen competing films will receive Palme d’Or prize. The competing films include such works as The Immigrant, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Only Lovers Left Alive. The Great Gatsby will open the festival, while Zulu, starring Orlando Bloom will close it. Christina Hendricks is simply amazing so, honestly, I look forward to every cover she’s on. This time the Mad Men star graces May 2013 cover of Flare magazine. Wearing a bright yellow dress the actress looks effortlessly chic as usual. She shared on dealing with rejection:

Kate Hudson looks amazing in red Gucci gown as she covers Elle UK May 2013. The star talks family, her fiance Matthew Bellamy and ballroom dancing. On the latter she commented:

3.1 Phillip Lim For Target

In the video below the designer said that the collection will include items like T-shirt, gown, a carry-on bag, since he is designging a wardrobe for a “modern citizen” who’s always on the go and requires different clothes for various aspects of life.

Judging from the sketches the collection will also feature menswear in relaxed casual style. There will also be accessories. The bags will be available at under $60.

Designer did not agree to the collaboration right away, but now he thinks that the opportunity allowed him to create a collection that is ‘chic and cool’ but also ‘accessible’:

Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution. One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire – one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible.

After leaving a co-founded Development brand , Phillip Lim has co-founded his own label with friend Wen Zhou, CEO of a fabric company in 2004. At that time both he and Zhou were 31, hence the name 3.1 Phillip Lim. The designer debuted with a Fall 2005 collection in New York and since has built a celebrity following.

Lim has also won a CFDA award and created an enviroimnetally-conscious collection called Go Green Go in 2009. Target, in turn, has collaborated with such designers and brands as Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and many others.

Burberry Prorsum Capsule Collection for The Metropolitan Museum of Art Exhibition 2013

Seems like all the leading fashion brands in the world are taking part in the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition set by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is a major event in the fashion industry. According to the fashion tendencies shown in the Internet, punk promises to be the key fashion trend both among the democratic brands and luxurious labels. Following the Moda Operandi’s dedicated collection, Burberry presented its latest capsule collection with an edgy vibe.

Burberry Prorsum Capsule Collection for MET Punk:Chaos to Couture Exhibition

In order to celebrate the 2013 exhibition by MET, Burberry created a unique capsule collection. Finding a source of inspiration in the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2011 collection, this collection includes leather jackets with edgy zip details and studs as well as utterly glam and chic spiked strappy sandals. Besides garments for women, this range includes pieces for men like jeans and a retro tee. All of the pieces in this capsule collection ooze the true British vibe, but the one, that reigned during the 90s.

Unfortunately, this collection will be available only through dedicated windows at the Burberry Soho and East 57th Street stores till the end of May.

This Punk: Chaos to Couture Spring 2013 exhibition was organized by The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibition will be held starting from May 9 till August 14, 2013. Its aim is examining the influence punk had and still has on high fashion starting from its formation back in 1970s and till the present time. Moda Operandi, retailer of luxury goods, along with Condé Nast made this exhibition possible.

Featuring nearly a hundred pieces both for men and women, among which are vintage garments and contemporary pieces, this exhibition best demonstrates the way the haute couture fashion adopts the punk signature elements in its ready-to-wear pieces.

Anorexia Awareness Campaign by Brazilian Modeling Agency

This ad campaign is among the most powerful messages to spread the word about the devastating eating disorder, Anorexia. The idea being quite simple translates millions of scientific articles into simple realization of how dangerous the disorder is by means of visual impact. The illustrations by Edson Rosa, Samuel Marinho that mimic typical fashion sketches are being contrasted to the images of famous models, whose bodies were airbrushed to show obvious signs of starvation.

Anorexia stays a threat to girls and young women whose self-image is still being developed and who take their inspiration from numerous Zero-sized models in fashion world. In society that is obsessed with visual information, this kind of ad campaign hits right to the point, reflecting the real similarities between the girls suffering from Anorexia and the sketches made by fashion designers. Despite being gruesome exaggerations of the real feminine bodies, the models altered by computer programs do resemble the actual runway models we have seen earlier during Fashion Weeks.

Despite the positive intention of the campaign, there is also a threat lurking in the shadows. The provocative images might be triggering the self-image of the girls that are already suffering from this disorder and promote their desire to stay this way. Certainly fashion industry apart from promoting high art, also has negative connotations that drive young girls to be suffering to appear size 0 without realization of the high price that is paid, sometimes even with their lives.
