Prabal Gurung To Release Collection For Target

Fashion designer Prabal Gurung is another designer who designed an affordable collection for Target. The previous designers who collaborated with the brand were Jason Wu, Missoni and others. Roberto Cavalli is going to launch his collection for Target Australia on October 31st in Sydney.

The designer told Style that his first designer Target purchase was by Proenza Schouler. Then in school Prabal Gurung had a hope that one day he will do the same. And now the collection inspired by love and designer’s life journey is ready to launch on February 10th days before Valentine’s Day.

One of the revealed ensembles consists of a colorfully printed blazer, top and shorts which make for an amazing floral outfit. What do you think about it?

She said:

I’d never say never about another baby. It’s a juggling act—a career, family, a husband who’s busy. But I’d never say never!”

Victoria Beckham covers Glamour September 2012 issue

Speaking about what she sees her life like in five years Victoria Beckham said:

I’d like everybody to be healthy and happy. I’d like to be growing the business at a steady pace, and to be making more women feel empowered, beautiful, and confident.”

Victoria, who was asked to guest-edit the September 2012 issue of Glamour Magazine told in her interview she felt really exciting being so deeply involved in the process:

It’s been exciting for me to see my ideas come to life, from type colors to photo selection to casting. I even made my own list of Glamour fashion Don’ts to keep out of the issue: boat shoes (unless of course you’re designer Alber Elbaz or on a boat!), Bermuda shorts, nose rings, Crocs, and American tan tights (that’s nude pantyhose to you).”

The fashion designer has also had to answer the question all of us are bothered with: why she never smiles while being photographed. Victoria seemed to be a bit puzzled:

Do you know, I don’t know?! I actually used to smile a lot in pictures. I think I only stopped smiling when I got into fashion. [Laughs.] Fashion stole my smile! I’ve created this person. And I’m not saying that’s not me, but I wouldn’t say that’s the whole me…. It’s an armor that goes up.”

Despite the fact her relationship with husband David Beckham is rather close Victoria doesn’t like to mix family and business. But sometimes she needs support. And in such cases she might ask David to be even closer than ever. The example of this we all saw last season when the footballer attended her fashion show:

It was the first time! He’s always been working or training. But I was nervous about this show. I was feeling a lot of pressure. He phoned me the night before, and I just said, ‘I want you to come be with me. I want a cuddle. I really do.’ And it was great to have him there. I think he was surprised; I don’t usually bother him with much detail. And then you get there, and the models, the hair, the makeup…I think he was blown away!”

Tom Ford isn’t an ordinary man. He knows it, and everybody knows it. So, it’s wrong to expect him saying he is just like any guy you meet when you go out. He admits he’s not a celebrity, not even a film star but he has that very problem every famous person has – he can’t walk a street without being stopped by people and asked for an autograph or a picture together. In a new interview marking his 50th birthday Tom Ford talks about lots of things his fans might be interested in. He says he hopes he doesn’t die tomorrow, shares on his vision of an ‘ideal’ woman, tells that he hates seeing ladies fully dressed in his clothing (especially if the outfit is totally the same as the one he sent one of his models down the runway in.), etc. Read and know new facts about the fashion designer:

Tom Ford on turning 50: “I hope that I don’t die tomorrow’. I hope that I get to be a little bit wiser and smarter, and keep learning things, and I’m looking forward to my old age in Santa Fe in my nineties as a sculptor – maybe wearing a lot of dark eye makeup like Louise Nevelson. I don’t know. I might have a Johnny Depp/Santa Fe/Louise Nevelson-sculptor moment in my nineties.”

Tom Ford on the ‘ideal’ woman: “The Tom Ford Woman for me is somebody who has her own sense of style. You change and swing. You have different moods. It’s not necessarily related to what you’re reading about in fashion magazines… she’s a woman who knows herself well, and who wears her clothes and her clothes don’t wear her.”

Tom Ford on women and styling: “Women love to shop, so they need to be able to find new things. So yes, I’m doing four collections for women, each year… But I don’t enjoy seeing a woman dressed in my clothes from head to toe exactly the way I showed it on the runway. I love when I see somebody who looks amazing and they happen to be wearing one of my jackets and a pair of shoes, they’re mixing things, and they know who they are.”

Tom Ford on being famous: “I always think, I’m not a celebrity, I’m not a film star, I can walk around on the streets, and then, when I do, I realize I really can’t. If I walk very fast and I don’t stop, maybe. If I linger, somebody comes up to me. They usually ask if they can take their picture with me, like I’m a building. It’s very strange.”

Tom Ford on his personal style: “I have a kind of uniform for London, a uniform for Santa Fe, a uniform when I’m on somebody’s boat, a uniform for the beach. I know who I am. I know what colors work well on me. I know what colors don’t work well on me. I know when I don’t feel well in something.”

Tom Ford on the new Beauty range: “Tom Ford Beauty is a collection I’m very proud of and very serious about. I’ve always been serious about makeup and cosmetics going back to when I was fourteen, and my mother had to take me to the emergency room because I was lying in the bathtub with cucumber slices on my eyes. She had to explain to the guys in the emergency room why her fourteen-year-old son had a giant infection in his eyes.”

Tom Ford on being a workaholic: “With computer and email, I think we all work twenty-four hours a day. I miss the days when you left your office and your assistant and you couldn’t work any more until Monday. But fashion is like that, and people don’t realize it. They think because fashion changes every season that it’s a business that changes all the time. And while the product does change, your schedule does not change. Year after year after year, you have to try to find ways to reinvent and make it fun.”

Manolo Blahnik told WWD about how he had to remake Kate Moss’ wedding shoes FIVE times to get them right as Moss confessed to “turning mental” for a moment while she was making all the preparations for her wedding with Jamie Hince. The customized $895 Godichefac open sandals with pretty ornate design were decorated with jewels but to get it right the shoes were remade five times.

We did them five times to get them the way she wanted.

The shoes arrived the day before and there were too many jewels on the heel because of the long train, so we had women working up until midnight to change it.

My workers are the best people. I wouldn’t be here without them.

said Manolo Blahnik to WWD. Blahnik has also expressed his delight for platform shoe trend decline as the designer has gained his popularity for his signature style in making feminine and delicate shoes.

Those ‘furniture’ shoes are finally over, or starting to be.

Blahnik has described his fall collection as “sweet”, “feminine” and “new” and it’s great as the fall season trends toward more feminine and delicate designs.

Kate Moss’ wedding was “divine” according to designer who said Moss has “a presence” that one has to feel. Kate Moss wore her customized Godichefac sandals with a vintage wedding gown by John Galliano for her wedding ceremony in July.

Riccardo Tisci commented:

I feel sorry for John. But for this moment I am leaving aside all the gossip of “I am going here, I am going there,” because there is a lot of gossip circulating and there always will be. I will tell you, in this moment, I am very happy at Givenchy and it is a moment in which I am bringing the game to the next level. So I tell you, I feel at home. It’s as if it were my son. I don’t know how to explain it. It would be very difficult for me to leave.”

Talking to Donatella Versace Riccardo Tisci told her it was Gianni Versace that since early age was great inspiration for him. He also mentioned he would love to dress Donatella as he believed she was ‘so much of a Givenchy woman’.

Riccardo Tisci said:

Donatella, you are so much of a Givenchy woman! I say it because I want the world to know. For me, aesthetically, you represent what the Italian woman is. There is always the American rock thing, the aristocratic, above-the-rest British manner, but Italy is at the heart of it. In fact, you and I have tried several times to do projects together. I would really love to see you dressed in Givenchy.”

Riccardo Tisci on his family, life and fashion: “My great strength, which I very much believe in, is family. For me, family doesn’t simply mean components of DNA. I mean family in the sense of siblings. My mom and my sisters are the energy and inspiration in my life. For me, fashion is a job. I love it. It’s my passion. But the most important thing for me in general is life. I was lucky. From the time I was a little, I was always surrounded by women, and I am very attracted to the feminine world, because I love the strength and romanticism, which in the end, you can find in my style.”

Riccardo Tisci on influence of Versace brand on him: “It was the late ’70s and the ’80s, which was a certain moment of Versace—especially for me with a sister who worked at a hair salon and brought home fashionmagazines on Saturdays. Of course, Versace is, in my opinion, still the flag of Italy; it represents Italy. It meant the arrival of top models, of celebrities, Gianni, Donatella, all the things that made me dream. Those early visions make a big impression.”

Riccardo Tisci on vulgarity: “I hate vulgarity. I hate vulgarity even though it attracts me—and it attracts me very much. I love all that is transgressive or vulgar. But in my opinion, it has to reach a limit that is always a little surreal and never becomes in your face. I say to you sincerely that what I very much admire about the Versace maison, and what I am still trying to learn to do myself as I am still young, is that from day one until today, Versace is the peak of sexy but never crosses that red line into the vulgar. Many other brands that have tried to outdo Versace have crossed that line. But I think that’s what you and I have in common, Donatella, that careful balance. It makes me proud to be an Italian. In the end, I am proud to do what I do.”

Riccardo Tisci on having someone to give opinions about his creations: “It’s super-essential. Even though I don’t have a very big team, for me, the word muse may be démodé or not. I adore it, but I am also one, in my delirium, to be quite classical. For a designer—especially a male designer—he absolutely has to have that female voice by his side, which he listens to, he filters, he digests. It’s a huge need, because when you see through the eyes of a man, you see a woman a certain way, and how they have little tricks of their own. And like I said before, my luck has always been how I’ve had a family of women around me, and I have women who are very close to me now—for example, Mariacarla [Boscono], Carine Roitfeld, Marina Abramovic. I have different women whom I adore and value. Everyone thinks that for many years Carine Roitfeld was my stylist, which is not true. Carine was like Mariacarla to me. Yes, there are some people whom I esteem and want their opinion first, but that’s my way. Maybe that’s because I’m 36 years old, and in a while, I will slightly let go. It is difficult for me to delegate. In the end, I do have two or three people on my team who I listen to.”

Riccardo Tisci on his favorite music that provokes emotions in him: “At the moment, I am fixated on Nicki Minaj and Antony and the Johnsons, but I’m also one who changes around in music a lot. I love the conceptual aspect of Antony Hegarty or the voices of those back in the day like Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Ciara. I love what evokes emotion in me. We are Italian. We are all little tribes—not only in fashion, but also in music—in everything, basically. I am close friends with Marina Abamovic´ , so I love strong, very aggressive political art. She is like a mom who wants to adopt me. I love that whole world but I also love hip-hop and R&B. People always say, “You are dark, you make dark dresses. You probably only love The Cure or Diamanda Galás.” I love Diamanda Galás, but I also love Madonna, Beyoncé, and Courtney Love. They are all from different worlds, but they all evoke emotions in me. I am someone who needs emotions and needs to transmit them. If that weren’t the case, I’d be better off changing professions.”

Riccardo Tisci on couture fashion: “When I started, everyone said couture was finished and I was so scared. Actually I was more terrorized than scared. I was arriving from a provincial area of Italy. They called me in to do Givenchy and I just thought, Wow. The first thing I did was sign my name. But I have to be sincere, I did that because my mom was leaving our family home and that thought really upset me. In a way, I didn’t even think . . . It could have been Givenchy, it could have been anywhere, but the fact of thinking of my mother in a home for the elderly . . . I don’t have anything against homes for the elderly, but my mom, after having nine children, after all the sacrifices, living in an apartment—it gave me anxiety. Being the only male in the family, I said, “No I can’t let this happen.” Therefore I signed, because I wanted to buy a house for my mom. I started at Givenchy and the whole fashion world was saying, “Couture is finished.” No, couture is not finished. Couture has changed—thank goodness.”

Riccardo Tisci on on his romantic side: “In spite of the fact that everyone thinks I am very much a Rottweiler—that I am very dark and everything—I have a side that is very romantic that I show to very few people.”

Riccardo Tisci on being inspired by Gianni Versace when creating his FW 2011/ 2012 collection: “Most little children’s obsessions are robots and Barbie dolls. My obsession as a kid was the Versace house. I used to save up my pocket money to buy Versus shirts. I was that obsessed! I still am today such a big fan. In fact, the only fashion show that I went to in my life was for Versace, when I went to the men’s show, and it gave me great pleasure that you invited me. If I am in fashion, it is really due to very few designers that I admire—not because I don’t like the rest, or that the rest are not beautiful, but because I am very selective. I adore Versace.”

Riccardo Tisci on how hard it was to find his own Givenchy woman: “When I arrived here at Givenchy, there was a lot of confusion. Before me, there had been some great geniuses—John Galliano and Alexander McQueen are great masters. They marked history. But when I came in after Julien Macdonald, it was also a bit of a mess, because not even I could understand what the true identity of Givenchy was. Everyone thinks that it’s only Audrey Hepburn, but there is a whole other world behind it. So in the end, I closed all the doors and didn’t let anyone in so I could find it for myself.”

Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton, who created that fabulous dress for Kate Middleton, was honored with DESIGNER OF THE YEAR award. EDITOR’S SPECIAL AWARD was presented to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who had to fly to London to attend the 2011 Glamour Womens Awards. Kim Kardashian who also arrived to England’s capital received ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on fashion shows and probability of making a full show for their most successful line The Row: A: “I really don’t like going to runway shows. I don’t like being around a lot of people, I don’t like being in crowds, so that’s another more personal part of it. It’s hard for me . . . [But] there are a couple of shows that I’ve been to that are just stunning . . . so if you’re going to the right thing at the right time, it can be fantastic.” MK: “We just feel bad for all of you guys who have to schlep everywhere and then write your reviews in the car on a BlackBerry.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on having Twitter accounts: “That gives me so much anxiety.” MK: “We’ve spent our whole lives trying to not let people have that accessibility, so it would go against everything we’ve done in our lives to not be in the public.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on their style dubbed by media as ‘homeless chic’: “That moment [first years at NYU] for us was us waking up, going to school, and not wanting anyone to take our picture. Kind of a piece of protection.” MK: “For me, it was so cold, like the wind chill. How could you not put on 20 things when you’re going from Los Angeles to walking through the snow? . . . I think it was probably that. And laziness.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on the design process for The Row: A: “It all starts with the fabrics . . . Then we go into kind of silhouette development, so we start figuring out our silhouettes, what we’re liking, what we’re leaning towards, an evolution of the previous season, certain pieces, so it really starts with this stylized proportion. Then, through that process, we start our pattern making off the silhouettes that we’re liking and the consistent themes that we start finding, the shapes. So we start twisting the fabrics and then we start trying different fabrics and patterns. And once we have all the fabrics, we have about three weeks to produce the collection.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on The Row‘s brand consistency: MK: “If you go through our entire collection, you’ve seen it all before. Meaning, pieces repeat. That fur T-shirt, for example, that’s this T-shirt [points to plain one she’s wearing] from a couple of seasons ago, so it’s always consistent. It’s just about how we can evolve and also give the option to either buy this version or that version, creating a story.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on their long hours spent managing multiple brands: A: “I don’t think it’s the creative process that has ever gotten to us. More than anything, it’s about trying to find balance with work and how we can personally stay balanced while having our corporations grow, and I think that’s been the biggest thing that we are constantly aware of. We have to put boundaries on scheduling. We work crazy hours every week, so it’s been more about figuring out when we need to put our foot down. ‘We can’t add this extra meeting. It’s one too many meetings in a day; push it later.’ So it’s been about that. And with The Row, it’s about how to elevate the process with growth without putting too much on the overhead.”

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen on being women designers: A: “I think the way being women has helped us in our designs is that we do a lot of research on what women like, what women don’t like.”

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fashion Advice #1: “Buy what you know works for your body and only buy something if it fits well.”

Our interpretation: Even if you would die for that pair of slouchy pants you should stay away from it if it makes your hips look huge. This rule works for anything in terms of clothing. If something doesn’t look great on you just move to the next shelf, you don’t want it.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fashion Advice #2: “Never underestimate the power of a simple T-shirt, jeans and a jacket. It always looks very chic.”

Our interpretation: You look perfect in a dress but isn’t it a bit uncomfortable to run errands in the city wearing it? Jeans and a t-shirt are always better. Accessorize your look to avoid looking plain.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fashion Advice #3: “Lots of women look great with no make-up on, so if you have good skin, keep it bare.”

Our interpretation: If you are naturally beautiful and don’t really need a concealer to hide problem spots on your face go without makeup. Russian supermodel Sasha Pivovarova believes the fact she uses little makeup is her beauty secret.

Karl Lagerfeld’s Fashion Advice #4: “You can’t avoid all the color and the brights out there. Give it a go. By next autumn/winter we will all be wearing black and grey again because everyone will be fed up of the color and print!

Our interpretation: Spring and summer are the perfect seasons for wearing color. You simply cannot go grey and dull when everything around is so vivid and lovely. Not daring enough to rock flashy garments? Opt for bright accessories instead.

He explained:

People say “how can you do so many collections?” and stuff, it’s not that hard, I just don’t do anything else. I don’t socialize, really, I don’t go to parties, I don’t do anything, I just work, but that’s my favorite thing, so in the end that’s fine.”

Well, I think living for work is great… for work. You do get the results you want, even more than that. But life just passes and you don’t socialize, build relationships, have family. Isn’t that what every person wants but often tries to hide and looks for reasons to justify?
