Sandals

Michael Bastian, Kenzo, James Long, Dries Van Noten, Damir Doma, Belstaff and many other brands opted to style outfits from their collections with sandals. And although they can be seen worn with suits and even socks we still advice to leave out the socks and wear the sandals with shorts or very light summer trousers.

Sandal shoes were spotted at Paul Smith and Dolce & Gabbana. These look more like shoes but they feature sandal-like straps and cutouts. They look a bit more formal than sandals and can be worn with informal light suits.

Sports Shoes

Sports shoes are one of the biggest trends of the season. They were spotted at Valentino, Salvatore Ferragamo, Raf Simons, Issey Miyake, Hermes, and many other shows. From colorful sneakers to sporty loafers sports shoes are worn with suits, shorts, and casual outfits.

Though not every pair of sneakers will suit the suit there are other models of sports shoes that could be worn as a comfy alternative to classic shoes.

Metallic Shoes

Metallic finish is the main trend of the Spring/Summer 2013 season so some designers went on to incorporate it into footwear. Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Acne among others created brogues, cowboy boots and sandals in metallic finishes.

This is a way to try this trend without wrapping into a metallic coat or even a shirt. Just choose the finish that works with a few outfits in your wardrobe.

High Top Shoes

High top shoes and sneakers are the hit of the season. These come in various styles and colors so you can opt for more sporty ones or go for high top classic brogues. There are also leather high top sneakers that are somewhere between casual and formal.

The latter can be worn with suits as they usually look less sporty. Of course, if it’s too hot in summers in your climate it’s better to leave these for early fall.

Tractor Soles

Tractor soles were back at Lanvin and Louis Vuitton as well as at some other shows. These look cool especially in a combination with classic shoes.

Opt for tractor soles if you want to dress down a formal outfit but at the same time add some edge to your look.

Contrasting Soles

Contrasting soles were seen at Mugler, Matthew Miller, Giorgio Armani and other shows. The shoes with contrasting bright soles are a great way to add color to your outfit without overdoing it.

You can also opt for casual loafers instead of classic leather ones. There are also light textile shoes that will do great for summer vacation wardrobe.

Most of the shoes come in neutral colors – black, white, brown, navy – but there are some collections that included bright and patterned shoes. Richard James’ collection featured brightly-colored loafers that completed the strict gray suits. In Emporio Armani’s collection there patterned yellow and black shoes while Mugler presented python-textured shoes in aqua and yellow color combo.

Shoe trends for Spring/Summer 2013 season are all about pointed toes, metallic finish, transparent details, and architectural shapes. An ankle strap is also a key trend in footwear for Spring/Summer 2013.

Spring/Summer 2013 Shoe Trends

Metallic

Metallic shoes is one of the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2013. Silver foil shoes and sandals were all over the runway during Fashion Week spotted at Nicole Miller, Emporio Armani, Giambattista Valli’s fashion shows. At Moschino heeled sandals were decorated with crushed crystals and metallic leaf plates while at Viktor & Rolf metallic pumps were made of textured material.

Chunky Heel

Chunky heels were spotted at Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga’s, and other shows. Heavy shoes also feature high platforms and multiple straps.

Transparent Heels/Straps

Clear heels and straps are back for Spring/Summer 2013 season. At Donna Karan and Valentino there were wedged sandals with clear platforms while Veronique Leroy showcased wedged boots with clear outer linging. Some other brands incorporated this trend subtly adding only a clear ankle strap.

Men’s Style Shoes

Men’s style shoes were spotted at Victoria Beckham who designed those in black and white, at 3.1 Phillip Lim who offers strap-y flat men’s style shoes, and at Giorgio Armani who created classic men’s shoes for women.

Architectural Shoes

Architectural shoes as seen at Fendi, Rodarte, and Jen Kao amaze with number of details and style solutions. Simpler but not less stylish pieces could be seen at Missoni, Guy Laroche, and J. Mendel.

Eye-Catchy Heel

Shoes with eye catchy heels are ‘in’ for the season. Just Cavalli, David Koma and Amaya Arzuaga chose to add color to their unusually shaped heels while Matthew Williamson and Calvin Klein Collection focused more on shapes and textures. Helmut Lang, Givenchy, and Gianfranco Ferre created amazing unconventional heels that definitely draw attention.

Square Kitten Heels

Square kitten heels are also a key trend of the Spring/Summer 2013 season. Isabel Marant, Michael Kors, Emporio Armani and other brands created sandals with kitten heels decorating with studs and straps.

Pointed Toes

Most of the Spring/Summer 2013 footwear features pointed toes. Versace created interesting open criss cross studded heels that feature pointed toes. At Emporio Armani the pointed shoes were finished with metallic stripes and toe.

Decorated Wedge Platforms

Emilio Pucci showed off beautiful creative sculptural wedges. Donna Karan and Valentino decorated their clear wedges with some patterns.

Strap-y Boots

Strapy knee-high boots are an interesting trend. These were spotted at Proenza Schouler, Acne, Alexander Wang, Versace, and Altuzarra featuring details like buckles and brand logos.

Reptile Skins

Reptile skins in footwear were seen at Gucci, Derek Lam, Kenzo and other brands’ shows. The animal printed shoes were also spotted at Mugler and Anna Sui. Some designers used just a strap of reptile skins to add detail to their shoes.

Prints

Printed shoes included florals, pixels, and other motifs and were seen at Peter Som, Dries Van Noten, Peter Pilotto, Guy Laroche, Nicole Miller, and Stella McCartney.

Wedges are commonly considered to be good for dailywear but there are designs which could be perfect for special occasions. Depending on what you are planning to wear your wedges with you can opt for the right length and width of platform and the details that decorate the shoes. Monotone wedges in neutral colors as well as in gold, cream or red can be good for evenings out while printed and funky wedges will complement you bright summery outfit.

Wedges were presented in plenty in both designer collections and mass market brands. So there is a great variety to choose from both in design and price range.

Espadrilles are also popular but less versatile than wedges. You can’t wear espadrilles to a party, work or a big event. They aren’t as classy as wedges.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Shoe trend #1: Metallic toes. Some footwear producers use metallic toes for practical purposes, to make their shoes more durable. Intended to be worn to the Cheltenham Festival the hooves are made of carbon fibre and up to 5,000 individual horse hairs. There are two main designs available – ankle and high boots. A pair will cost you up to £1,300. All the proceeds will go for charity.

The model who has posed for campaign pictures, Louise Dainton, says the boots are incredibly comfortable and you almost feel like galloping down the final furlong while wearing those.

She said:

They are really comfortable and almost make you feel like you want to get on the track and gallop down the final furlong.”

Pumps and stilettos. Despite all hot discussions about how harmful stilettos and pumps are there will always be women ready to sacrifice their health for beauty and elegance. Therefore, such shoes will always be trendy. For Spring/ Summer 2011 high-heeled shoes come in a great variety of colors, from crazy and eye popping hues to reserved and even dull tones.

Flats. Flats are generally perceived as unsexy and focused basically on the comfort of the woman wearing those. However, judging by Spring/ Summer 2011 designer collections flats have become more glamorous and attractive and this makes those more versatile. You can now pair them either with a cute dress or a stylish pair of jeans.

The styles of flats in Spring/ Summer 2011 are very diverse: ballerina flats, oxford flats, sneaker sandals, Jesus sandals, etc. Such a wide spectrum allows each girl to find a pair that fits her personal style best.

Printed shoes. Prints make shoes look livelier and more cheerful. You can use these to complement your look or there is a possibility of building looks around such shoes. The trendiest shoe prints for Spring/ Summer 2011 fashion season are the florals, geometric patterns and animal designs.

Clog-inspired shoes. First created by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel Spring/ Summer 2010 collection clogs have been gaining their popularity since then. They are still trendy now but with a modernized look and more luxurious in design.

Platform wedges. Wedges are hotter than ever during Spring/ Summer 2011 fashion season. Common designs are added with platform ones which look even more stylish. There are modest wedges which are fantastic for everyday wear, espadrille styles, and very exquisite designs you would want to wear to big life events. Look for wedges in Sonia Rykiel, Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood and Jonathan Saunders collections.

Flatform Heels. This can be the first time you have ever heard of flatform shoes because this is a new term and it refers to flats that are elevated on a high platform heel, held on by an ankle strap. I would even say that they remind me of summer espadrilles but these are a bit higher. Flatforms do not look very elegant or sophisticated but they do provide great comfort to wearer. Despite the fact the shoes are rather high you can walk easily in these without feeling pain. Chanel, Prada, 3.1 Philip Lim, Michael Kors, Derek Lam, Vivienne Westwood, and Chloé have all featured flatform shoes in their Spring/ Summer 2011 ranges. By the way, flatforms are considered the shoes for 2011!!!

Zebra-printed shoes look the best for me. And the electric blue suede pumps are impressive, too. However, there is a pair in Roger Vivier’s Spring/ Summer 2011 collection that I will never go for – the sheer plastic one with kitten heels. What do you think?
