Elie Saab is well-known for his red-carpet fashion. But for Fall 2010 Couture he has overdone a bit. The collection of dresses was chic, sophisticated and… old-fashioned, though I loved the look of those huge flame dresses.

As designer explained his inspiration for Fall 2010 Couture collection came from La Fenice, Venice’s legendary opera house. He borrowed ‘the ruched velvet of La Fenice’s curtains, the gilt and blue of its decoration, and even the fire and ash of its hellish moments’.

Before the show, Elie Saab said:
If a woman doesn’t want ‘rich,’ she doesn’t come to couture.”
And he gave what he was supposed to give – the rich and fabulous clothing that women would love to wear.

The fabrics Elie Saab used were luxurious and the draping was complicated. Plenty of embroidery, lace and guipure added glamour that is necessary for such kind of gowns to look right. Some of the dresses looked heavy and probably they were, taking into account the number of pleats and embellishments each had.
