Donna Karan’s creations are always about the women’s power and feminism, however this fall winter 2013-2014 RTW collection, which she presented as a part of the New York Fashion Week 2013, exudes the sensuality and edginess.
Karan told about the collection “It’s all about the body”. The collection features the black jacket and skirt ensembles with the tight silhouettes, asymmetrical capes, jersey-draped dresses and the tight fitting gowns. The looks were complemented the slick ponytails, which added the strong feel.
This season Donna Karan decided to get back to her roots, to the mid 80s epoch, when she created 7 base garments, which promoted her into the world of fashion. They not only looked attractive, but were also easy to mix and match. In this fall winter 2013 collection she offers the reinvented versions of those stretch jersey pieces.
While the silhouettes were tight, the colors stayed tight as well: blacks, metals, rusts, browns were chosen to complement the rawness of the ideal woman by Donna Karan.
My particular favorite in the collection is the double-breasted wool jacket with the wide collar and rounded sleeves, which was teamed with the jersey skirt. Another knock-out in the collection was the gray dress with a cape-like silhouette.
Uma Thurman, the true addict of Donna Karan’s clothing, commented on the collection:
These are clothes for women like me. I’m a huge fan of hers, it was such a strong collection. Female empowerment is her mission – above and beyond fashion. She’s someone who really walks the talk.
What is obvious about Donna Karan is the fact that the both lines by Donna Karan are dedicated to the woman’s strength.
