Kristen Mcmenamy gave the tone to the Giles catwalk show during the London Fashion Week 2013 wearing the floor-length white gown with the flowing silhouette, zombie-like makeup and silver hair. Looking like a ghost, she was followed by the range of the ethereal beauties like Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell and Georgia May Jagger.
The white dresses were followed by the gold, rich purple and brown ones when the black outfits finally appeared. That was a stunning and dramatic high fashion version of the heaven and hell where Giles Deacon managed to make the latter appear so appealing and beautiful.
As for the silhouettes, they had the Edwardian quality, which was expressed through the voluminous sleeves and bold dresses made from organza that cinched the waist and were embellished with Swarovski elements. The ruffles on the neck collars were replaced with the torn leaf resembling gold strips that embraced the models’ necks in the dramatic way.
As usual, in this particular fall winter 2013 collection Giles demonstrated the high level of craftsmanship: the leather was delicately cut into the ornate patterns and beautiful blooms that appeared on the billowing gowns.
Giles delicate creations have an edge: the colorless angels looked like they just fell from the sky to appear in front of the amazed publics. The casual oversized beanies added the slightly scruffy feel to the collection.
The designer commented on the collection:
It was actually all about Blackadder. It’s the workmanship that I think people look forward to when they come to my shows. They forget about the low-brow influences and that’s what sticks hopefully.
