For Spring/ Sumer 2011 Marc Jacobs created ultra feminine 70s-inspired dresses of light delicate tones. For Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 the designer turned to a different style that was rougher and told about women’s fashion obsessions. Marc says the inspiration for the new Louis Vuitton collection came from the conversation with LVMH’s Bernard Arnault about ladies’ “inexplicable” obsession with bags.
Marc Jacobs commented:
And that got us started thinking about passions, and any of the disciplines that require effort and work and commitment.”
What they got in the result was a huge collection comprising sculpted jackets, blouses that buttoned up the back, below-the-knee pencil skirts with shiny cordovan belts, pretty cocktail dresses, puff-sleeved, Peter Pan-collared French maid uniforms, dresses and skirts made of fabric reminding fish scales, jodhpurs, and coats of classic shapes. These garments were accessorized with tons of bags with signature Louis Vuitton monogram, sheer black stockings, leather boots of all colors as well as gladiator boots, and hats in the manner of Charlotte Rampling in The Night Porter, decorated with plastic masks.
Louis Vuitton Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 runway was full of models who already earned significant names in the industry, including Kate Moss (who was smoking a cigarette right on the catwalk!) and Naomi Campbell.
