Prabal Gurung is known for his bold colorful prints leaning toward gorgeous life-like florals. His Pre-Fall 2013 collection features not only those but also plenty of prints and patterns in satin dresses as well as in the tops, skirts and pants. The collection is feminine and bold but definitely wearable.
It consists of pant and skirt ensembles, day dresses and evening gowns. Most of the pieces are printed and feature some kind of a pattern. There are also color blocked outfits and separate items.
The silhouettes are also feminine and streamline featuring structural details like ruffles and pleats. Though the details aren’t overwhelming. The prints are doing their job at making each piece a stand out one.
Some of the current trends can also be seen throughout the collection. For instance, there are pant enseblems with long tunics that remind me of a skirt over pants trend. There is also an oversize coat in the collection.
There fabrics include shiny satin, tweed, and mesh that appears in hemlines of dresses and skirts. The color palette is beautiful and includes some jewel tones like amethyst, turquoise, and emerald green.
As for the designs, there are a few architectural pieces with angled folded fabric as well as some pieces with pleats like a gray metallic full skirt. The day dresses are even more impressive than the evening ones.
There is a minimalistic white dress with blue flower print that echoes in other pieces as well. Ther is a draped black and white dress with an assymetric hemline and a halter neck that is shaped as some kind of flower.
There is a dramatic black and white full skirt shift dress decorated with feathers and a couple of strapless streamline frocks with mesh hemlines and beautiful flowers printed on them. Among evening gowns there is one that stand out. It’s a floor-length black gown with a cut out neck and draped skirt.
