Being aware of the hard work Sarah Burton has done to create Resort 2011 collection I still feel great disappointment. She can’t be compared to Alexander McQueen. To be precise, her vision of fashion is a lot different and it is clear in the range we see here.
The new creative designer of Alexander McQueen brand tried to keep the drama and extravagance that was peculiar to the founder of the fashion house who passed away a few months ago. But she couldn’t succeed as much as we expected. The clothing in Resort 2011 collection looks fantastic but too simple for McQueen. He liked flamboyant pieces, those that make you hold your breath when a model struts slowly down the runway. Sarah Burton’s creations are more ordinary than eccentric, more wearable than couture.
However, if we look rationally at the garments we can’t but see they are perfectly designed and look chic. I like the length of trousers, the silhouettes of dresses, both cocktal and evening ones. Belts are fantastic, as if tiny clutches were used instead of buckles. Some of the attires would fit in the office too.
To conclude, I will say that we will just have to put up with the loss of an outstanding designer and be kinder to the person who was dare enough to agree to continue the work that was highly praised by millions. We should give Sarah the chance to express herself and outstep the shadow of her predessessor.
