Latin America has always been something that attracted people from different corners of the world. Back in 15th century, when colonisation of the region just started, human beings barely knew anything about the unknown lands. Things are totally different today though. We all have a taste of tacos and burritos as well as the colorful Mexican dances and the sounds of Maracas. I, personally, get incredibly fascinated by the rich culture of Latin American peoples. Obviously, I am not the only one with such an affection. Rebecca Minkoff used the Mexican culture as inspiration for her Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Do I need to mention how much I loved her newest line?
Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2014: Viva La Mexico
Bianca Jagger, Frida Kahlo and Alice Dellal served as a main source of inspiration for Rebecca Minkoff. She used the traditional elements form cultures of these brilliant women and endowed them with a modern zest. I absolutely love the pieces that were presented on the runway. A T-shirt with Lets’ Go To Mexico slogan is something I crave from now on!
The designer opted for a different style of the show this time. Whereas music is considered to be super important at the runway, live music is something you won’t witness that often. But I am glad that Minkoff voted for the creative side. She invited Janelle Monae to perform on the background of the runway, while the models walked the catwalk in absolutely gorgeous pieces. Janelle started the show with The ArchAndroid‘s skittering “Dance And Die”, while “Q.U.E.E.N.” track from her new album The Electric Lady wrapped it up. This is what the songstress thought of such a unique collaboration and experience:
I‘m a fan of Rebecca’s work, she pays such close attention to detail, and I actually almost forgot my lyrics during the performance because I saw these amazing pair of shoes.
What you will spot in this awesome collection won’t leave you untouched. A wide range of dresses, in different colors and styles, along with various skirts look so stylish and delicious, that my mind is not able to hold any memories of the previous collections anymore.
My favorite outfit of Rebecca’s show is made up by lovely bluish-gray shorts with colorful stripes, paired with an elegant white shirt. I love the embroidered collar of the latter as well as the way it is tucked into the waistline of the shorts. A delicate cardigan with a matching design fits greatly and along with the saucy lace boots with fringe perfectly complete the look. A handbag in folly red adds a colorful zest to the outfit.
