Vivienne Westwood’s rebellious nature is known to us all. It is clearly reflected in her creations which cannot be even compared to normal clothing her fellow designers make. But we can’t deny there is always an interesting idea behind Dame Westwood’s works. She can think about saving the rainforests, or anarchy in this world but what she’s got in the result is always surprising, often breathtaking and sometimes even shocking. For her Spring/ Summer 2011 collection Westwood combined her vision of the past, present and future. Using both chic and simple materials the designer showed us the picture of our life – intriguing and scary, controversial and hopeful, ridiculous and bright. All in one.
If we part from the idea behind the Vivienne Westwood Spring/ Summer 2011 collection and speak fashionably we could note that the collection was rather hectic. It featured elements which separately would look great but together were pretty confusing. And the clownish makeup and extravagant hair didn’t add to the wearability of looks.
Some pieces in Vivienne Westwood’s Spring/ Summer 2011 collection were amazing though, and in combination with more sensible garments would look fantastic. We love the sky-blue mini dress, floral-printed kimono, the final cute wedding dress and the torn grey-and-blue knitted dress.
Accessories by Vivienne Westwood were much more versatile than clothes (but that’s always true about accessories, right?). Hats, kerchiefs, caps, lovely flowers in hair were good. Bags came roomy and convenient. Jewelry, sometimes too daring, was attention-grabbing and would be ideal to make the outfit brighter.
The only exception, a total exception, were the Westwood’s shoes. The platforms were too huge and while they could be great for photography we doubt there is a girl who would actually love to wear these.
