CFDA and eBay join forces for ‘You Can’t Fake Fashion’ initiative for the third time launching a collection of designer tote bags which goes on sale on March 18, exclusively on eBay. Around 90 designers joined to support the initiative by designing bags for the collection, the proceeds from which will go to fight countereits through education. All in all the initiative is aimed at raising awareness against counterfeits.

The bags will be auctioned on eBay at a starting price of $100. For those who want to support the initiative without splashing on designer bags, the “You Can’t Fake Fashion” tote will cost $50.

The collection of original bags includes designs from such fashion houses as Derek Lam, J. Mendel, Prabal Gurung, Rag & Bone, Carolina Herrera, Rodarte, Tabitha Simmons, and Ralph Lauren. I must say I liked Prabal Gurung and Carolina Herrera bag designs the most.

While the majority of the designs feature a ‘You Can’t Fake Fashion’ logo on them, J. Mendel bag, which is made of short fur says You Can’t Fake Fur. Rodarte, Rag & Bone and Tabitha Simmons went with the designs that feature fashion illustrations with the bags acting as canvases.

Among other designers/brands who created original bags for the cause in previous years were Diane von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, Narciso Rodriguez, Anna Sui, Helmut Lang, Calvin Klein, Jason Wu, Naeem Khan, Brian Atwood, Donna Karan, Phillip Lim, Marchesa, Peter Som, Herve Leger by Max Azria, and many others.

Both CFDA and eBay treat counterfeiting as a serious problem that harms the designers whose work is intellectual property that’s being pirated by counterfeiters. Both organizations are working hard to raise awareness and fight against the counterfeit goods. eBay is working hard to remove any counterfeit products from the site giving the original brands a chance to protect their work by reporting counterfeit goods.
