Can violence be beautiful? Ever? I don’t think so. I think violence is totally unacceptable. I don’t want to see or hear about it. I don’t want to experience it. And I don’t want it to exist.
Victim of Beauty Photoshoot for 12 Magazine

You may ask why I started such a topic at a fashion blog and I will answer – because one of fashion magazines (Bulgarian magazine 12) has published photos of badly injured women as part of their photoshoot about beauty. It shocked me. I looked through these pictures breathless. You may say it’s rubbish or I take it too close, but I do take it close. I know women who have gone through domestic violence and there was nothing beautiful about it. They suffered. They wanted it to end. They believed they looked ugly. Bruises, cuts and blood do look ugly.

Entitled Victim of Beauty, the pictorial made by photographer Vasil Germanov shows six models with black eyes, burns, torn out piercings and slashed throats. Each of the models looks flawless apart from injuries, and wears designer clothing and accessories.

Alison Meldrum, from anti-domestic violence charity Standing Together, commented:
Given that violence is already skyrocketing in teen relationships, this kind of perversity masquerading as “art” is very troubling.”

But some people considered the work as amazing:
To me this is amazing!! While some may think that this glamorizes violence, I think it makes you think outside of the square to what the photographer was trying to depict. To me it says while a woman can be scarred, she can in fact still be beautiful.”
What do you think about either the photoshoot and violence? Are there ways to protect women and children from it?
