Carey Mulligan – Best Dressed Woman Of The Year

I have never taken Carey Mulligan as a fashion icon seriously, so I’m really surprised that she is on the top of Harper’s Bazaar Best Dressed list. She has even excelled Victoria Beckham who has her own successful fashion line, and Natalia Vodianova, the supermodel with an impeccable fashion taste.

Carey wowed fashion experts at the Oscars when she appeared on the red carpet wearing a luxury Prada gown embellished with hundreds of jewels. However, the 25-year-old doesn’t think she deserves such a status. She says she has a great stylist who dresses her for glam events and in life she prefers rather simple clothing. She also made it clear she wants people to appreciate her for her acting rather than fashion choices.

She said:

I was at a press conference and Woody Harrelson was answering questions about how he felt about his character. I got up there, and they said, “What are you wearing?” And I thought, “There was a time when I was an actress. Not just someone who wore dresses.”

Nevertheless Harper’s Bazaar experts consider Carey Mulligan worthy of being named The Best Dressed Woman of the Year. Fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu, who was on the judging panel, said of the actress’s style:

So Sixties French New Wave – like a Godard starlet – but totally modern.”

Carey Mulligan has beaten many other fashion-conscious women, including: TV presenter Alexa Chung, supermodel Kate Moss, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, designer Stella McCartney, etc.
