Men have always covered only men’s magazines while women could be covergirls of both men’s (like GQ, Maxim, etc.) and women’s glossies. But starting from July 2012 everything will change. And it’s David Beckham who will play the major part in it. The British footballer will become the first man featured on the cover of Elle UK (or any other ladies’ fashion magazine).
David Beckham To Do Elle UK Cover
Elle UK editor Lorraine Candy said in an interview that their July issue will be dedicated to this Summer’s Olympic games in London, and it was quite natural to choose Beckham to front the issue because he ‘bridges the gap between British sports and British fashion’.
David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support a historical and patriotic year. He is an icon and Elle is known for featuring icons on its cover. This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike. Anyway, who doesn’t want to see a picture of one of the world’s most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine? It will be a collector’s issue.”
Elle has put men on its covers before, but those all were posing with women. So, Beckham’s cover will definitely make history.
This will become just another Beckham’s foray into the fashion industry after he modeled for Emporio Armani underwear campaign alongside his wife Victoria and designed a men’s underwear line for H&M.
