Dolce told WWD:

We interviewed all the mothers because the collection must be practical. We learned a lot, plenty of details. For example, it’s better to have sleeveless onesies and freedom of movement – kids don’t want to feel too constricted.”

The designers say the new collection is ‘conceived as a further expansion of the Dolce & Gabbana world’ and will include everything a child up to the age of 10 might need: daywear, innerwear, beachwear, accessories and footwear.

Vogue.com, which has more detailed information about the upcoming range, wrote:

Highlights comprise a lilac, sequinned party dress, a mini tuxedo suit teamed with spotted bow ties, tweed bouclé jackets, as well as Baroque-inspired designs seen on dresses covered with cherubs and floral patterns and crepe de chine blouses adorned with white lace.”

Stefano Gabbana explained why they decided to create a childrenswear collection:

I didn’t know much about this world, but Domenico’s brother has three children aged two to six. The line is conceived as a further expansion of the Dolce & Gabbana world, in terms of product, design content, craftsmanship, function and positioning. This is an homage to Italy and to our tradition. It’s part of our culture and marks one of the most important moments in our lives.”

By launching a childrenswear collection the Italian label follows in the footsteps of other luxury labels like Gucci, Lanvin and Diane von Furstenberg.
