Spring 2013 campaign
Actress and face of Dior, Marion Cotillard who works with the brand since 2008 is finally desiging her own version of Lady Dior bag. The Rust & Bone star posed for numerous campaigns representing Lady Dior but now the brand and actress take their work to the next level.
She has been the face of the Lady Dior bag since 2008, the epitome of a sophisticated and vibrant woman. It was, of course, completely natural that Marion Cotillard would go on to design her own bag, her personal Lady Dior, as modern as it is timeless,
it said in the statement for the video.
The behind-the-scenes clip by Dior shows Marion Cotillard at work as she sketches the bag’s shape and discusses fabrics, patterns and stitching. She says she is “torn between a rock and roll type or something extremely simple” but at the same time she wants ‘to put a strong Dior symbol on it’. The actress admits she love hounstooth pattern and draws inspiration from photos she took of tree branches against the sky and covered in snow. The suggestions include velvet finish, and such classic features associated with the bag as quilting and the Cannage stitching.
In the video Cotillard is seen very involved in the design process. She sketches, shares ideas, contemplates the design, so it is really her take on the iconic bag.
Lady Dior shot to fame after Princess Diana was given the handbag by Bernadette Chirac, France’s First Lady in 1995. Since then the small square handbag decorated with Cannage stitching and D letter charms became an epitome of elegance recognized all over the world. The bag that requires eight hours of work, seven craftsmen, and over a hundred pieces of leather to make comes in a variety of styles, finishes and colors including lambskin, crocodile, mink, and other materials.
So far these are the all details known about the project. But we’ll sure keep our eyes on it.
