Saint Laurent Says Bye To Hedi Slimane, Hi To Anthony Vaccarello

Another year, another designer is leaving the famous fashion house or should I say another month? Alexander Wang, Raf Simons, and Hedi Slimane all got their high-profile gigs around the same time and are currently dropping out one by one to pursue other things.

It was announced last week that after his four-year tenure as Saint Laurent’s creative director and image Hedi Slimane is leaving and just now Anthony Vaccarello has been named as the new visionary for the brand.

Vaccarello isn’t a surprising choice. Having the similar style he most definitely continue to appeal to younger clientele. Vaccarello himself is very popular with celebrities who choose his sexy dresses for the red carpet of every caliber (see examples below).

While his own style is very unique and recognizable it will be interesting to see how he will translate it into an old brand’s style.

Meanwhile Slimane hasn’t announced any future plans unlike Raf Simons who went on to focus on his own brand as did Alexander Wang. It’s definitely going to be an interesting year in terms of fresh replacements as we saw at Dior, Balenciaga, and Lanvin Fall shows. What do you think of Anthony Vaccarello as Saint Laurent’s creative director?
