Wednesday Links: Master of Minimalism Raf Simons For Dior Job? Really???

Dior hasn’t still founded a designer who could take after John Galliano. Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz, Richardo Tisci and others were considered for the position but none actually took it. Now the brand’s executives are reported to be in talks with Raff Simons who currently works for Jil Sander.

I have nothing personal against Raf Simons and I recognize his talent of creating minimalistic fashion. But position at Dior is quite different from what he usually does. Dior is all about luxury and pompousness. Raf Simon doesn’t fit in at all. Unless Dior is going to change…

However, talks between Raf Simons and Dior seems to be pretty serious, so probably in a couple of seasons we would see the new Dior. The 43-year-old designer is currently busy working for Jil Sander. And according to reports he has recently extended his contract with the brand for an unknown duration. So, Spring 2012 couture and Fall 2012 fashion collections for Christian Dior will still be created by Bill Gaten.
