These days, it’s totally not enough just to be a supermodel, one has to be talented and gifted in all celeb spheres. Some models turn to acting, like Cindy Crawford, some launch a perfume or design their own fashion line, and some turn to singing. Unfortunately, looking great on the catwalk doesn’t guarantee success in the recording studio…
The next best supermodel Agyness Dyen, 25, first graced American Vogue cover in 2007 and has lately become the new face of British youth culture. Agyness recently recorded vocals on the Five O’Clock Heroes track, Who, appeared in the video, and performed live on stage with the band. Unfortunately, the collaboration didn’t receive positive reviews being named “shamelessly nailing their rotting corpse to a sparkling celebrity wagon”. Anyway, Dyen got her 15 minutes of fame at the Glastonbury this summer.

It’s not enough to be a model and France’s first lady for this forty-year-old beauty who left the catwalk behind for the studio in 1997 and began her musical journey. French singer Julien Clerc set Carla’s lyrics to seven tracks on his album Si J’etais Elle. Carla’s very own debut album Quelqu’un M’a Dit was released in 2002. Three of the album’s tracks were featured in the US film Conversations With Other Women (2005). The second album No Promises was released in 2007. And the third Comme Si De Rien N’etait was released on 11 July 2008.
Before focusing entirely on her musical career Carla worked for many big names including Christian Dior, Givenchy and Paco Rabanne and in her peak in the 90′s she was amongst the 20 highest-paid fashion models.
Maybe it’s due to her love of dating musicians (ex-boyfriend is Pete Doherty of Babyshambles and she’s currently engaged to The Kills front man Jamie Hince), as British supermodel Kate Moss, 34, also tried her hand in singing. In 2003, her vocals featured on Primal Scream’s Some Velvet Morning, and she also appeared in the video. Kate sang on a Babyshambles single La Belle Et La Bete and had a go on stage at one of the band’s gigs. Kate’s also made appearances in music videos for The White Stripes and Elton John.
Being in the spot whatever it takes. That’s about this 38-year-old fury machine Naomi Campbell, an international supermodel since 1988. Naomi’s first appearance was when she was only seven in Bob Marley’s video for Is This Love, and in the ‘90s she appeared in the music videos for Madonna’s Erotica and George Michael’s Freedom. In 1991, Naomi teamed up with rapper Vanilla Ice on the single Cool As Ice. Naomi released her own album Baby Woman in 1995, her single Love And Tears was a flop in the UK, but a success in Japan and sold over one million copies worldwide. So far, no second album followed.
Most famous for her work for lingerie company Victoria’s Secret, 35-year-old German-born supermodel Heidi Klum released her debut single Wonderland in 2006. The single was originally written for a series of television adverts for a German retailer. The song reached No 13 in Germany. Last year Heidi recorded the duet Wedding Day with her husband singer Seal, and the couple performed the song live at the Victoria’s Secret show in December 2007.
35-year-old supermodel and America’s Next Top Model judge Tyra Banks began her modeling career when she was just 17. She has appeared on the catwalk for fashion giants Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabanna and Victoria’s Secret and has graced Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Cosmopolitan covers. Tyra first sang when she made guest appearances on TV and appeared in music videos for Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. In 2004, Tyra recorded her first single Shake Ya Body with the video featuring contestants from America’s Next Top Model. The single flopped and she never released her album.
I can’t believe I wasted 6 years of doing something that I didn’t finish… but since my music career hit rock bottom I quit,” the model said in one of the interviews.
Glamour girl Katie Price aka Jordan, 30, became famous for her modeling in The Sun and Playboy shoots. In 2005, Katie entered herself in the competition to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Not Just Anybody. She was heavily pregnant giving a cringe-worthy performance in a tight pink catsuit. In 2006, Katie released a charity album of duets with her husband, ‘90s Australian pop star Peter Andre. The A Whole New World record gained cult status and made it to number 20 in the UK charts.
