Karl Lagerfeld is a ballet lover as I can judge from the fact he has created an exclusive Chanel tutu for ballet sensation Elena Glurdjidze.
The designer said:
As a child I was already impressed by old images of Anna Pavlova dancing the ballet, the Ballet Russes were an influence for me.”
Over 2,500 feathers were used to make the beautiful one-off piece for Elena’s performance in the The Dying Swan’ as part of the National English Ballet’s season of Ballets Russes later this month.
As Glurdjidze, who is a principle dancer with the English National Ballet, said a costume is “50 percent of how you are going to dance”
It is very important to have a beautiful costume.”
The tutu was made at Chanel’s Lemarié atelier by three seamstresses who spent more than 100 hours to complete.
Elena was absolutely delighted with the finished piece and thanked the fashion designer with an impromptu performance in the middle of the Chanel store in Paris.
