First lady of USA appears on the March 2009 cover of fashion magazine .

The photoshoot is taken by Annie Leibovitz.

On the cover Obama sits on a soft beige sofa at the Hay Adams Hotel, where she and her family stayed days before the inauguration.

wears a magenta outfit by designer Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural ball gown. She accessories the dress with a diamond rin.

Inside of the issue, you can see her standing in front of open French door in a black dress by Narciso Rodriguez.

It’s the second time a first lady has appeared on cover of ,” says Patrick O’Connell, director of communications for . The two Obama “portraits were commissioned. They were taken by Annie Leibovitz at the Hay Adams in January.” The cover story is written by editor-at-large, Andre Leon Talley.

First lady talks about her children and their ideals and fashion.

“First and foremost, I wear what I love,” she says. “That’s what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion.”

“I’m going to try to take them to school every morning — as much as I can,” she tells Talley. “But there’s also a measure of independence. And obviously there will be times I won’t be able to drop them off at all. I like be a presence in my kids’ school. I want to know the teacher; I want to know the other parents.”
