Oxford Street in London is known as the world’s most famous shopping street. And soon it is going to be famous for one more thing – the first high street fashion week will be held there.
Leading retailers including Debenhams, Uniqlo, John Lewis and Topman have already signed on for the event and talks are in progress with other major household names such as Selfridges, Topshop, Marks & Spencer and Miss Selfridge.
The event is planned to start on Monday, September 7th. But before that there is a lot to do.
In August, Oxford Street shoppers will be asked to vote for the celebrity they like best to choose a “High Street Queen”. The winner will play an important part in the fashion week.
Among other events we can name workshops, fashion shows, makeovers, late-night shopping and in-store promotions.
The New West End Company, a conglomerate dedicated to boosting London’s West End as a global shopping destination, is responsible for the organization of the event under the support of major retailers and the Mayor of London.
One more fashion event needs to be mentioned here, that is “Fashion’s Night Out” organized by Vogue as well as with international designers, boutiques and department stores. This will take place on Thursday September 10th in key cities around the world and is intended to celebrate fashion and shopping.
These two events will work as a build-up to London Fashion Week, which will start on September 18th and last to 22nd. This year London Fashion Week celebrates its 25th anniversary.
