Sophia Kokosalaki teams up with Diesel Black Gold

Share |

Sophia Kokosalaki and Diesel Black Gold have teamed up for design collaboration. Renzo Rosso, Diesel chairman, has chosen Sophia because she is the best to work with the brand. She nearly always wears dark denim and is a talented couturier who could revitalize the brand.

Sophia is said to be leading the charge in Diesel’s high end line. Unfortunately the label won’t show up as usual at September’s New York Fashion Week but it will appear with Kokosalaki’s stamp next February for spring/summer 2010.

Renzo Rosso is sure that Kokosalaki’s ability will do a lot to overhaul the brand, and he thinks her ‘talent is incredible’.

Kokosallaki is a well-known person in the fashion world and her own label’s great collections established her as a leading designer. Besides, she has worked as Creative Director of French fashion house Vionnet for some time and participated in designing costumes for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

But what ‘people do not necessarily expect from her is her skill in dealing with denim and contemporary casual, the core of Diesel Black Gold.’

However, Sophia is not a stranger to the Diesel family as well. The brand’s parent company, Only the Brave, bought out her signature line in January 2007. Thus, this new deal will put her label back in Kokosalaki’s hands, which she plans to continue to work on independently.

Hope the collaboration will be successful and the brand will present us with something absolutely new and gorgeous!

As I have already mentioned I like when luxurious designers create for ordinary customers through collaborations with democratic brands. Just a couple of days ago I wrote that Lanvin was working with H&M, and now it’s time to note that Topshop asked Katie Shillingford, editor of Dazed and Confused, to help design the Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 collection.
