Though the 81st Academy Awards at The Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday (February 22) was not as chic as it used to be in previous years, celebs appeared on the red carpet wearing far from humble attires. Nearly everyone was rocking a designer’s gown that looked fantastic!
The first person I’d like to speak about is Miley Cyrus who was wearing a Zuhair Murad Spring 2009 Couture gown. The dress was gorgeous with its tiered scallop skirt, and an embellished belt. The girl looked like a character of a fairy tale – very pretty and very innocent!
But, in my opinion, the gown was not good for Miley as she looked much older than she actually is. Probably it was her stylist’s intention, who knows, but I’d prefer something different for a 16-year-old girl.
I don’t want to hurt Angelina’s fans feelings but her gown is number two in my list. Jolie was wearing a long, floor-sweeping black corset dress that looked fascinating. Black surely looks well on her and adds some glamour to her entire view. Little black clutch was perfectly chosen to accessorize the gown.
But something was wrong about those emerald green earrings…
Of course, Angelina Jolie is a woman who can wear whatever she wants and still be considered the most beautiful. However, I think this was an obvious faux pas of hers!
Penelope Cruz was rocking a nice vintage Pierre Balmain Haute Couture gown. I think she was one of the best dressed women on the red carpet.
The dress was exceptionally feminine and the print was wonderful, it looked like lace. Besides, the woman ideally selected her jewelry. These were nice pieces from Chopard.
Sarah Jessica Parker looked stunning in a white Christian Dior Haute Couture dress. She was like a princess – so nice and womanly! It reminded me of her greatest role in “Sex and the City” and that perfect wedding dress she wore in it. The dress gave her the boost and embroidered bodice added sophistication to the style of the gown.
Vanessa Hudgens looked marvelous in John Galliano’s gown. Her black dress emphasized the girl’s good figure and a fluffy skirt, that started at her knees, made her whole image look very feminine! But what I loved the most was the detailing at the front – perfect and sophisticated!
Virginia Madsen looked divine! Her clinging scarlet dress was very elegant and unusual. It accentuated the woman’s nice curves and the belt just created the look of a slimmer waist. Very hot and sexy, I would say!
Taraji P. Henson was dressed in an ivory Roberto Cavalli gown. It looked great but I have to confess I’d expected more from her this time.
Well, anyway she looked fabulous. I liked the contrast of the dress with her skin. Terrific jewelry from Fred Leighton and a little nice bag of red tone by Mary Norton (as if perfectly chosen to match the color of the carpet) went well with dress!
Another nominee that deserves our attention here is Freida Pinto. She made a standout with her blue John Galliano’s gown. I loved the one shoulder long sleeve dress with the all lace, beading, embroidery and tulle it was ornamented. It was so pretty.
The look was completed with a Judith Leiber clutch.
Leslie Mann was wearing a magnificent House of Dereon Couture gown which amazed me with its sparkle. I don’t usually like dresses that shine or sparkle, but this one was really perfect! So nice and so elegant!
The last woman to mention here is a TV Guide host Lisa Rinna who’s just returned from a vacation on the surface of the sun. Lisa Rinna looked excellent in a purple chiffon tiered skirt halter gown from Gustavo Cadile’s Fall 2009 collection. Her dress was accessorized by beautiful leaf- shape earrings and bracelets.
That is all for now. Of course, this list is far from being exhaustible because as I’ve mentioned almost all the celebs appeared wearing splendid gowns. Hope you liked the post!

Sara Jessica Parker is ugly as sin and boggles my mind that the media plays her as being beautiful and sexy. yuck yuck yuck
Take away the pretty dresses and hair dos and professional makeup done to her face and you want to throw up.
