Project Runway winner Christian Siriano is recently making maternity clothing a little “Fiercer” under the Moody Mamas label.
I wanted to design a collection that was both wearable but luxurious, something that was cool, but not frumpy or boring. I used fabrics like jersey, cashmere, chiffon and charmeuse so its great for a mom who doesn’t won’t compromise on her style but still wants to look good and be comfortable,” said Siriano.
Moody Mommas already is hugely popular with women fan base, with the likes of Tori Spelling, and Jessica Alba as fans.
The first look of colection was on November 3 in New York at West Village Belly Dance Boutique.
The designer was in store and told myitthings.com a little about his inspiration behind the collection.
Christian Siriano doing maternity is kind of an unexpected move. How did this collaboration come about?
I know, right? I actually went to school with the owners (Marta Abrams and Elise Rosemarin) and they asked me to design a collection. Maternity is one of those niches that is untapped and there’s the potential to make something that is both cool and new but also wearable.”

The pieces are all very wearable. Did you have to tone down your aesthetic for the collaboration?
People think that all I do is avant-garde after Project Runway but my Spring collection actually had a lot of wearable pieces. In this economy people are selective about what they buy so wearability was definitely an important factor.”
The line, priced between $125 and $375, is a holiday capsule collection featuring festive shades like fuchsia and black. Expect skirts, boleros, and tops, too
