Day One at London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week opened its catwalks yesterday with a mythical line of boiler suits and 80′s modern rocker jackets, awesome bows, and vibrant colour lines.
First day was Topshop Unique. The character proved a violent contrast to the flaming sun outside – all wistful harden and bare light bulbs. The catwalk was virtually indiscernible from the backstage.
Artist Lesley Keane roused journalists’ interest with talk of the return of the smoky eye and sultry dark lips.
And once Peaches Geldof and Alexa Chung were sitting front line, the boutique raw from the high street stalwart didn’t disappoint.
Louche boiler suits got a frisky update in a multi-coloured heart print, while snow wash denim lent an Eighties edge.
50′s Americana, from the fun fairground theme, to boyfriend-sized baseball jackets and the coquettish housewife hairdos with plus size bows also had its place.
Fresh new trend was Ossie Clark at the LFW base at the Natural History Museum.
Though Ossie Clark added embellishment, grass green and the odd graphic print, there were plenty of obvious similarities between the two. Block colours, lots of orange and blue, draped frocks in fluid fabrics, lots of maxi length styles.
Oriental prints replaced Celia Birtwell’s contribution. It’s pretty, but not universally acclaimed.
Kimono-style sleeves completed the look.
As Ossie Clark show was wrapping up, queues were already forming outside for the PPQ show.
The Girls Aloud member was a great ads for the brand, sporting a glam PPQ red and black polka dot prom dress.
The show itself featured some extraordinary millinery with box hats, fascinators in that sexy mix of pale pink and black.

More pretty prom outfits are sure to be seen on immeasurable celebrity debutantes in the coming months, as will super-short tailored shorts and shoulder-padded cropped jackets.
