D&G Fall/Winter 2009-2010

Fairytale goes on with D&G.

When I see these chic dresses I immediately recall my childhood and my mother reading fairytales to me. My imagination pictured queens and princesses wearing the garments pretty similar to the ones we see on models for D&G during Milan Fashion Week.

The only exception is that outfits worn by my imaginary characters were long and covered legs fully. Here the skirts are short but still have something royal in their look.

The collection by D&G has something strongly feminine and luxurious but at the same time seems to be a bit old-fashioned and out-of-time.

It includes lots bustier dresses with lampshade miniskirts made in brocade, jewel-studded velvet, or tapestry-print chiffon; bustier tops paired with high-waisted jeans encrusted with big, colorful crystals; capes which come in ocelot-print ponyskin and chinchilla, pant outfits with deep décolleté; simple T-shirts and blouses.

Jewelry was limited to few chic brooches adorned with gemstones while the bag line was pretty diverse. Handbags come in sumptuous fabrics: velvet, satin, suede, leather; and unusual shapes.

The models marched down the red-carpeted runway in sky-high platforms of great designs. They looked wonderful but very insecure to walk in.

The entire collection is created partially in dark colors and also in light muted hues. The palette includes ocher, burgundy, cadet blue, black, light yellow and beige. All these tints are as lush and rich as the collection’s furniture fabrics.

Looks interesting but is unlikely to be worn in everyday life. Producing the line of this kind, that would hardly ever be sold seems very unwise to me. Do you agree?
