Choosing Leggings that flatter your body shape

Share |

Leggings are again in fashion! Why not? They are beautiful, chick and even slimming. They are becoming more and more popular.

Leggings style

Many starlets like Hillary Duff, Christina Aguilera, Fergie, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan love wearing them.

You can do that either. But remember that if leggings are worn incorrectly they look just ugly. Some women should avoid them as they can only accentuate their physical imperfections.

Leggings are not for everyone and before putting them on check whether you really look well wearing them or it’s better to get rid of the pair as soon as possible.

Here are some pieces of advice to take into account:

# 1 Consider your body shape. Remember that leggings are not pants or jeans, they are very tight-fitting and thus expose any extremes. If you are too big or too small you better not wear them.

Leggings will magnify both bulges and bones, making you appear fatter or unattractively skinnier. Even if you do have a nice frame, you have to be very careful about choosing your tops wisely. The fact that leggings look good on you cannot allow you to wear any kind of a blouse or tee.

#2 Wear tunics. Opting for a tunic is a good approach if you want to wear leggings. If you have slim thighs, you will want your tunic to hit mid-thigh length.

Lindsy Lohan- and Nicky Hilton in leggings

If you would like to show a little less leg, choose a tunic that reaches the knee area. Any tunic looks good with leggings as it covers your bum and hides all bulges you have along your hips and upper thighs.

When you choose to wear a monochromatic tunic your leggings may have some print. But avoid wearing both printed tunic and leggings, it looks ridiculous. And remember that black leggings can go with almost any outfit.

Do not, however, wear a short jacket with an equally short top underneath. It will not provide adequate coverage and you’ll end up showing more than you probably want to reveal. Never wear leggings with short pieces that cannot cover your behind, even if it is very attractive.

Rihanna and Paris Hilton in leggings

You may choose to wear a dress or a long T-shirt as well as a skirt, probably a mini. Wear a dress that is loose-fitting and hits somewhere between the mid-thigh and knee with leggings. If you choose a longer dress, opt for longer leggings.

#3 Choose right shoes. Almost any shoe can work with leggings: knee-high boots, cute flats, stilettos (for special occasions) or some types of sandals.

Flats create a laid-back, bohemian look. Heels can add a bit of glamour. Steer clear of flip-flops in cheap materials such as plastic, terrycloth, etc. You shouldn’t wear trainers except for working out and running about. Leggings are not the clothing item that can be worn with sneakers.

Well, many things to consider, but we hope you’ll go through it. Good luck!

I love Vogue and try to publish the fashion Bible’s covers every month.  However, I do think that not always the covers are good and beautiful. For example the cover for June 2010 issue with Angela Lindvall doesn’t look great at all! Not that Angela is unattractive but because the photographer was obviously uninspired. Maybe [...]
