Designer presented his glamour collection at Mercedes Benz at Smashbox Studios on Sunday, October 12th.

Old Hollywood glamour and style shone wide in ’s spring collection, with gowns suitable for modern-day versions of Dietrich, Garbo, Crawford and Bacall.

Hall was showcasing the kinds of graceful custom-made and skilled outfits that make him a red-carpet favorite with the women of Hollywood.

Front row wonders at the fashion show included Rachel Griffiths, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon and .

Hall’s collection encouraged by 1940’s prolific costumer Adrien Gilbert, looked to classic retro shapes and fabrics such as taffeta and chiffon in stark black and white or sultry blue and pink.

Gilbert Adrian designs in the ’30s and ’40s raised the style wattage of icons Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford.

One of the best looks were a backless yellow chiffon floral printed dress nipped in at the waist and accented by a variable train, plus a soft silk chiffon dress in aquamarine with jewels gathered at the neckline.

Several outfits drew acclaims and applauds from the crowd, including one made distinct by elegant waist-to-floor pleats and an ombre style, fading from white to baby blue.

Catwalks models sporting swept-back hair in unbound chignons wore slanted berets, and thick black belts composed feminine silhouettes stimulating memories of the working girls on AMC’s ’60s-set TV show “Mad Men.”

A strapless dress in plum covered with black lace had a fab fitted bodice, with a skirt plumped up by tulle.

Lucky for Los Angeles, Hall came back with a show worthy of his muses: Hollywood’s leading ladies, and the town itself.

I think you can always find a beautiful black dress,” Hall said, ” but I like taking those slinky silhouettes and doing them in hot colors, to really make them more modern. I’m really sensitive about the color choices that I make. I try to make them really flattering and warm, and that evoke a kind of emotion.”

This row continues in his tradition of designing elegant tailored gowns that fawn a woman’s body and set her immediately apart from the crowd.

Possibly that’s why Desperate Housewives star told afterward that she now knows “exactly what she’s going to wear during awards season.”
