LFW:Vivienne Westwood Fall 2009

Ok, this post will become the first in a series telling you about London Fashion Week designers and collections. The fashion week started on Saturday and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of wonderful pieces on the runway.

The first designer to speak about here is Vivienne Westwood, the most extraordinary woman I’ve ever met or heard of. Her new line was called “Red Label” and is said to be inspired by naughty boarding school girls and wicked headmistresses.

Looking at the items presented in the range we’ll see lots of corseting, asymmetry, tartans, tailoring, and other things that amaze and even shock.

Now I’m not surprised why Westwood had chosen Pamela Anderson to be the face of her business as the ex-star personifies the general air of wanton womanliness which we can all find in Red Label.

The collection was rather diverse and included a few asymmetrically draped cheap-looking jersey dresses, tweed emblem blazers and mix-matches of plaid, a poncho-dress hybrid in olive green, some voluminous hooded winter wraps, woolen suits, a few woolen dresses, knitwear and even leggings.

To me the line looks too vulgar and not worthy for the runway. Those terrible tights of grey tones, hats of a strange design seem to be too extravagant and far from being classy. Nevertheless, I’m sure, many girls especially young ones will like the line and purchase something for themselves.

However, there are some pieces that look rather well either. These are cocktail gowns of more or less classic style and shoes. I loved the shoes! Those above-the-knee boots are not to my taste of course, but others look very well, dressy and sophisticated.

Well, I think there is enough about this line that is strange but interesting to some extent. If you’re a confident person you may want to have some pieces from the range. But in case you prefer classics, as I do, you better look for another designer’s creations.
