Despite all those problems caused by the economic downturn some designers still prefer to use rich fabrics and luxurious details. New York Fashion Week has seen plenty of those and now we will speak about one more brand that is highly unpractical in our tough times – Marchesa.
As you know Marchesa’s bread and butter is gowns, so even when others feel too wasteful to create chic dresses this season, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are going ahead full-force.
If you’ve already seen the collection you would probably ask what the inspiration was for that sophisticated line.
The answer is: an extravagant fairy tale involving girls walking through the woods in beautiful ballgowns.
The result is stunning: a tulle-d, lace-d, sequined, and beribboned range — sometimes too fluffy or too simple, but always hot and carpet-ready.
Marchesa Fall 2009 fashion presentation was held at the Chelsea Art museum that made it pretty unusual for the guests.
The effect was that you had been taken to a fairy tale wonderland. Girls wearing cocktail dresses and evening gowns with many layers, mounds of tulle, embellishments and satin bows looked wonderful.
They were perched on pedestals, like works of art – which they actually were – at a gallery. This gave the visitors a real opportunity to look at the clothes up close, and get to see them from all angles.
All dresses were very different but beautiful in their own unique way. Their colors ranged from nudes to blacks, to plums, to greys, to scarlet. Looked absolutely fantastic!!!!
Georgina Chapman, one of the collection creators was asked whether any of these gowns would be seen on the red carpet soon.
She replied:
“I hope so. It’s all so nerve-racking. You hope an actress is going to wear your gowns. But in the end you have to wait to see what she arrives in on the red carpet.”
I hope that the gowns will soon be purchased by our most loved celebs! The line is great and it deserves to be worn by the best!

Amazing gowns! But models are very ugly!
