Miley Cyrus, a 16-year-old Disney starlet, has brought back the style of the 1980s in the third season of Hannah Montana.
Those tiered miniskirts, leopard prints and fingerless gloves look pretty well on the young girl and I guess they will soon become extremely popular among girls of her age because if Hanna wears something it immediately becomes a teen fashion.
According to costume designer, Dalhia Foroutan, the retro look was created mostly for Miley’s on-stage persona Hannah to wear, but hints of the ’80s have been used in most of the cast’s wardrobe.
Some of the outfits designs were taken from Madonna’s Lucky Star and Like a Virgin days. But the look that influenced the kid’s style the most was that Madonna’s careless look that people of those days remember clearly well.
Foroutan says:
I didn’t like her (Madonna) so much in the ’80s, but looking back, she was so new and different and she really influenced fashion in the ’80s. I respect her for that”.
The Hanna Montana stars are too young to remember ripped-neck sweatshirts or legwarmers that were in vogue about 30 years ago, but they do consider the style as retro and think it’s cool.
Miley says she likes the style because it allows her to add her own details to it.
I can mix and match a cute shirt with some skinny jeans under a leather jacket and it looks fun and unique. That’s why I love the signature leather gloves that are a part of the new Hannah look. I like to put my own style into what I wear mixed with something from the past,” Cyrus writes in an e-mail to the AP.
We can already say that the style is getting its popularity as Teen Vogue has shot a lot of outfits with this vibe for spring, you can see them in the runway shows of Marc by Marc Jacobs, DKNY and London’s Christopher Kane.

personally i hate the fact people start wearing the style celebrities do. sometimes they just blindly follow the fashion without thinking it may not suit them well. i think the best fashion is something that looks good on you…

personally I hate glitter and shiny stuff on clothes so I highly dislike her style but I support people having their own unique style. Besides, she wears it pretty well and that’s how you do it. The only bad thing about it is that fans will imitate her and it looses its personal touch
