NYFW: Rodarte Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011
I don’t like Rodarte much but still I admit these two sisters are very talented. They see something that few of us see. To add to this, they can use that to create the masterpieces they’ve become famous for.

The new collection for Autumn/ Winter 2010/ 2011 has been inspired by Kate and Laura’s Mexican roots. To be precise, it was the border town of Ciudad Juárez with its ‘maquiladora workers going to the factory in the middle of the night’ that made designers think about the idea of sleepwalking. And this way sleepwalking has become the core of the range unveiled during New York Fashion Week.

Strange, often looking untidy, the clothing surprised the audience a lot. There were lots in common with the garments for Spring 2010 seson by Rodarte but if the latter was fierce and bloody the new collection was nothing about that at all. It seemed that the imagination that used to be full of dark scenes cleared up and now wants peace and quiet.

Plenty of nude was sometimes diluted with reds and blues. Fringe, colorful chiffons, patchwork, strips of ribbon, wrap-ups were the details that instantly attracted attention. Knit socks and lace leggings served as perffect complements to the unusual outfits. Shoes were created by Nicholas Kirkwood but this time heels were cleverly designed to look like melting wax.
