Ossie Clark Fall 2009
London Fashion Week is over already but I have pretty much to tell you about those couturiers who participated in it. Now it’s Ossie Clark brand.
The Ossie Clark creations are so well known and cherished by vintage-loving girls that it has been tough for the label to decide which style would be prevalent in collections since the business was bought by Marc Worth, an entrepreneur.
The first couple of seasons the ranges created by the house designer Avsh Alom Gur seemed to be the result of obvious hesitation over the question whether he should do his own thing or try to adopt Ossie-style seventies into his work.
Hard choice, isn’t it?
Do what you like or follow the most recognized Ossie Clark style…
For Fall 2009, Gur has finally made his decision and focused on the seventies.
He has done plenty of work with archive templates, turning out fluted empire-line day dresses with trumpet or balloon sleeves in the kinds of petrol blues and maroons that were Ossie staples.
What we saw at the catwalk was really fabulous. Thus, we can say Gur successfully defined his sphere of creation and we can expect lots of garments oriented mostly on the seventieth but with a modern twist.
The clothes included in the fall line were very diverse.
These were: short or long dresses with a floral print, very simple but looking good; great combinations of black short fluted skirts and satin blouses, satin patterned suits with or without a bow, beautiful chiffon blouses and dresses, short crepe dresses with puff-sleeves, simple A-line coats and short-cut jackets, turtlenecks, long floor-sweeping gowns with deep V-necks and lots of other wonderful pieces.
The color palette is far from being restrained: all possible bright tints, dark hues, pastels and of course classical black which we see in all lines presented at the runway shows.
The evident peculiarity was the white opaque tights which children tend to wear in their early years. Are they going to enter the fashion world again and be worn by fashionistas worldwide? Maybe, but not sure.
I liked the bags very much. Of course they are very big but look terrific. I’d like to add one to my wardrobe!
Generally the collection is very romantic. Even the hair cascading freely on the models’ shoulders look airy and seem to be cast over by romanticism of the past epoch.
The range is perfect of course, but the issue still is whether this line is best projected on a runway.
Many experts consider that a label ought to quietly stay in its own seventies groove rather than try to be part of the seasonal trend discussion. What do you think about it?
