Gareth Pugh’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection unveiled yesterday (30.09.09) during the Paris Fashion Week is difficult to miss as it is very much unlike other designers’ranges.

The show was all grey and eerie with a Matthew Stone soundtrack playing that featured a stentorian interpretation of the theme from Requiem for a Dream.

Both men and women’s lines were presented. The entire mood of the collection seemed to be inspired by doom and pessimism. The garments showed nothing bright or at least hilarious. Grey color turned into metallic and then into charcoal – everything was dark and gloomy.

The designs seemed fresh and unusual though, with some interesting headwear pieces. Fabrics that looked like old ones torn in separate threads were something worth seeing either. The boots were all grey too, with open toes and laces to provide the clinging effect.

What else made me shiver was the makeup models were wearing – zombi-like, all grey again as if the girls were not alive.

Nevertheless, the show was very successful. Gareth Pugh admitted he’d been nervous about moving so far away from the hard-edged, superstructured looks that earned him his rung on the fashion ladder.

Many celebrities attended the presentation, the list included big names like Rihanna, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Daphne Guinness and others.
