When I hear of Salvatore Ferragamo the first thing that comes to my mind is elegance.
And now it is really true as Cristina Ortiz who has worked for Salvatore Ferragamo brand for a few years already was able to develop her talent and classic taste to correspond to the name of the house.
Though her two previous collections were a complete failure and described as louche rather than ladylike.
Happily, her third effort is much more successful.
The garments in the line Fall 2009 presented during Milan Fashion week this year were mostly exceptionally polished and cultivated.
The items which certainly deserve your attention are the well-tailored jackets giving resemblance of the fashion of the forties.
Hunched shoulders and diagonally cropped bell sleeves worn with pencil skirts or tapered and cropped trousers looked wonderful.
Among other items that looked great were dresses – long, floor-sweeping and extremely elegant. They clearly demonstrated that the designer is quite handy at sophisticated draping, too.
I liked short cocktail dresses as well for their classic style and sophistication. Also in the plus column was Christina’s restrained approach to accessorizing, with few handbags making the runway. And the gloves the models were wearing were absolutely fabulous!
However, the designer couldn’t resist flashing some skin. The dresses with sculptural, plunging necklines looked pretty close with the general sensibility of the collection.
But this cannot be said about the sheer sweaters. These were horrible and distracted the viewers from really nice pieces – perfectly elegant long skirts – with which the sweaters were paired.
Occasional fur trimming looked terrific and created a more chic and luxurious appearance.
What I didn’t like at all was the knitted cardigan. Probably it would look nice in another collection that presents more casual looks but for this line it was obviously out-of-place.
As you see Salvatore Ferragamo favored dark hues, including reds, violets, night blue and, what is different, pastels for A/W 2009/2010.
Probably these are the touch times that influenced the collection or something else but the colors are just the ones used in formal wear and posh garments. I think the palette was chosen correctly.
The Fall 2009 range was perfect and glamorous. I loved the majority of clothes and will probably purchase something to give myself a treat. What is your opinion about the collection? Is it the same as mine?
