Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 Campaign
Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2013 campaign is styled the same way the brand’s Spring 2013 fashion show. The checkered surfaces mimic the pattern in which most of the collection is designed. Lensed by Steven Meisel the campaign features models Ruby Jean Wilson, Tian Yi, Nastya Kusakina, Athena Wilson, Janice Alida, Ji Hye Park, Magdalena Jasek, and Bria Condon.
Marc Jacobs once again collaborated with the Daniel Buren whose work inspired the designer to create the graphic outfits, to create the photo set with model posing in pairs just like they walked during the show.
His work is very graphic with the use of grids and so I took inspiration from his sculptures and installations. And the escalators were a case in point. They’re a moving pattern, a rhythm, it’s a mathematical equation. I just liked graphic patterns, the colour with light,
Jacobs explained his inspiration.
The runway during the show was designed in bright yellow and white checkered pattern as well is the photo set for the ad campaign. The looks demonstrated in the shoot all come in a checkered pattern in black and white, yellow and white, and light brown and white. The collection also includes the bright green, dark brown, and deep navy blue colors in combination with white.
The silhouettes Jacobs created for this collection fit with the graphic checkered pattern. The square necks and streamline shapes complement the checkers and there is also retro vibe around those short jackets and short tunic dresses. But it wasn’t “meant to be 60′s” said the designer after the show adding that beehive hairstyle might have also played the role in making the referrence.
The collection gives me a dubious feeling. On one hand some of the designs are great while some aren’t very flattering (see cropped tops and pointed kitten heels). What about you? What do you think?
