Hobbies and obsessions
Despite the success of her modeling career Sasha Pivovarova tried to realize herself in other areas of life. She keeps on painting and hopes to become a professional artist one day. In one of her many interviews Sasha admitted that painting improves her mood. She takes inspiration from everything in the world – her travels, memories, friends, etc. Besides, she uses various canvases (hotel stationery, contracts, maps) in her work as well as tools (pens, pencils, charcoals, even coffee and wine). Her talent has been praised during two exhibitions which were held in New York (2008) and Paris (2007). And some of her works were featured in Vogue US, Vogue Paris and Teen Vogue.
Two renowned designers – Karl Lagerfeld and Miuccia Prada – have commissioned Sasha to illustrate books for them, which she is currently busy with. Miuccia Prada’s book is to include drawings, photography, and collages. All we know about Karl Lagerfeld’s creation is that it will be based on Russian fairy tales.
Another Sasha Pivovarova’s hobby is self-portraiting. She takes dozens photos of herself in the mirror at fashion shows and other places. This idea has become the basis for new Rag & Bone Do-It-Yourself ad campaign spring 2011 where Sasha along with models Abbey Lee Kershaw and Lily Aldridge photographed themselves.
Sasha Pivovarova is married to her long-time friend and photographer Igor Vishnyakov. They married in 2009, in Thailand, and later recreated the scene for a photo shoot in June 2009 American Vogue picturing close family and friends. In December 2011 the couple announced they were expecting their first child and in May 2012, on Mother’s Day, Sasha gave birth to their baby daughter.
The couple currently resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Their apartment is also Sasha’s art studio where she likes spending her spare time.
Sasha has been a vegetarian since she was 12 years old. She says she stays healthy by training kung fu and drinking oolong tea. She never drinks alcohol and uses little makeup considering these two things her secrets of beauty.
