I don’t know much about Gianni Molaro or the inspiration he had for creation of these pieces, but the fact he had a few great messages to tell us with his designs is undeniable. A person just can’t make so unsightly items to simply attract attention. The breast dress, the heart garment, the evening gown with a huge Euro sign – they all have sort of social, political or other meaning. The problem is that the meaning is hard to grasp.

Let’s take Gianni Molaro’s breast dress, for example, – the flesh-colored creation with peaked shoulders and long tentacles instead of hands. What did the designer want to show us with it? Could it be the idea of no-way-out for a modern ugly and degrading consumer society obsessed with sex and cruelty? Probably, but not necessarily. Each of us can have his own associations with it.

The same thing is about all the garments in Gianni Molaro’s collection. The designer had really strong ideas to communicate but failed with the execution. Too much confusion, too many questions raised and none answered… The designer should think more before he engages into something as complicated as this collection.
