Baroque trend is one of my most favorite trends for the Fall 2012 season. It’s lavish and interesting and the interpretations we saw at Balmain, Dolce & Gabbana, and Aquilano Rimondi shows are simply stunning.
Keep It Modern
Baroque is an opulent style no doubt, but since it can look very costumey in everyday life it can be quite tricky to keep it simple and relaxed. It’s certainly not relaxed. Dramatic and lavish patterns and elements make it almost theatrical but if you don’t mind a bit of theatricality in your clothes then go for it the way Balmain and Dolce & Gabbana did. Their pieces though lush and decorated still feature modern tailoring. Balmain jackets are edgy as usual but the Baroque prints and patterns make them look more, well, Baroque.
At Dolce & Gabbana the models showcased sheer fabrics, mini length, and Baroque-d casual wear like shorts that made this style more up to date and wearable. Still dramatic and opulent but wearable. If you want to tone it down though you can opt for Baroque-style accessories instead of clothes. Think lace socks and tights with laced ankle booties, elborate head gear, jewelry, bags, and sunglasses. Use black and gold color combo to pull them off. Of course, you could also experiment with white, red, purple, and cream.
Mix & Match
It’s okay to mix and match when rocking a Baroque style. At Balmain models showed off the elaborate jackets paired with crisp white shirts and black pleat suit pants or leather pants. To pull this off opt for a statement Baroque piece like a jacket, top, or pants and pair them with classic wardrobe essentials like silk black blouse or white collar-less shirt, a turtleneck, classic black pants or a pencil skirt.
Opt For Quality
When it comes to quality of Baroque pieces it’s better to opt for good looking fabrics and prints. The good quality piece will not only look great but will also last longer.
