Swimming is very useful for expectant mothers. It is a great way to stay fit and healthy during pregnancy, thus it is certainly worth making a decision.

However, finding good fitting maternity swimwear is not easy for many moms-to-be. It’s hard enough finding the right fit, needed breast support and a pretty design.

Some people say expectant mothers can opt for plus-size swimwear as it is also meant for fuller figures. But this is not right for many reasons.

First of all because maternity swimwear is specifically designed and cut to fit the unique shape of a pregnant woman.

Maternity tend to offer the exact kind of support and coverage a mom-to-be wants and needs to help her look and feel best during this very special time of her life.

This shape can be a lot different from other full figure body types. Maternity often support right where the expectant woman needs it.

For example, a woman’s bust line can increase dramatically during the course of a pregnancy, so extra support is often needed to keep the suit fitting correctly.

In addition, most pregnant swimwear has bodice detailing to emphasize rather than de-emphasize the woman’s waistline. This way you can show your natural beauty.

Maternity swimwear bottoms are also specifically shaped so that they hug the backside and stay in place when moving around both in and out of the water.

Some pregnant women prefer to squeeze into pre-pregnancy swimwear considering it is unreasonable to buy an expensive maternity swimsuit.

This is not a good decision though. You will never have a flattering silhouette wearing usual swimwear, no necessary support will be provided for your growing body and also imagine how many you will need during all nine month of the pregnancy period.

I guess that’s enough to persuade you to invest into a good maternity swimwear.

Pregnancy swimwear can be as fashionable as other type of swimsuit and each woman can find a piece she likes. Besides, pregnancy swimwear is divided into styles. These are the following.

The one-piece

The one-piece is the easiest to find. It’s usually made of a material that stretches as your belly grows, so it can last you your whole pregnancy.

Good idea for those who don’t want to show too much of their body during the period.

The bikini

If one-piece seems too conservative for you, you can choose a bikini. It allows you to reveal and draw attention to your beautiful expanding belly and the new cleavage with a supportive, built in shelf bra.

With regular style bikini bottoms, expectant mothers may be able to wear the bikini after the delivery as well. But if you plan to be active this style should be avoided, as it usually does not provide enough support.

The Halterkini

Halterlini is a stylish alternative to a bikini. The style is ideal for big-busted moms as it provides good support and a slimmer look.

Halterkinis usually come with adjustable ties around the neck.

The tankini

The tankini style is for those moms-to-be who don’t like one-piece , but feel reluctant to expose themselves so much in a bikini.

Instead of a bikini bra, the tankini has a stretchy vest-style top, that is intended to cover most of the bump.

Tankinis are often preferred by expectant mummies for the fact they cover up stretch marks and come in a variety of styles.

The baby doll style

For more coverage and maximum support, opt for a baby doll-style. The Baby Doll is an empire-style top with a longer skirt, full at the hips and bottom in a mini-dress style.

This style has wide straps and is slightly larger in the bust.

The strapless mini

If you like strapless designs, but still want some hip and lower cover, then the strapless mini is the best for you.

The comfortable style provides a beautiful silhouette in the flowering curves and shapes, and allows you to get a nice tan line across the shoulders.

The nursing swimsuit

A nursing swimsuit is good for mothers who breastfeed and want to start swimming with their babies. The swimsuit has clips on the straps which let you open and close the drop cups easily.

The straps are adjustable that makes sure you can stay comfortable all the time.

The sarong

Sarongs are perfect for those who feel uncomfortable about their bottoms, thighs or any other parts of body which does not look good after the delivery.

Sarongs come in plenty of different colors and fabrics and can be wrapped around you at the beach or while sunbathing by the pool. Ian alternative to a sarong can be a nice-looking cover-up.

And the last thing to mention here. Don’t rush to put your maternity swimwear into your closet once the pregnancy is over. For some time you will need to drop the excess baby weight and regain muscle tone. During this time your body will hardly look perfect. That is why keep wearing your pregnancy swimwear until you feel you can demonstrate you body again!
