Busy with promoting her latest movie Great Gatsby, where she plays Daisy Buchanan, Gatsby’s love, Mulligan opts for strict minimalistic looks while it’s the editorials, where she shines, trying on different amazing looks.

Even at 2013 Met Ball the Great Gatsby star wore a minimalist black Balenciaga dress with cut outs, which she accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

This time around the actress tries on not only romantic outfits but also more daring looks. In one of the most impressive photos the actress wears a white corset dress stuffed with red roses, which looks simply amazing.

In one of the other images actress lies on the stone path amongst the red-colored grass in a red dress and a black wig on a pillow of roses.

The editorial is fabulous and shows Mulligan from different sides. An airy lilac dress she wears in a cathedral that makes her look romantic and yet edgy thanks to hair by Jenny Cho, while Alexander McQueen black honeycomb dress accessorized with a bee keeper-like definitely contrasts with the first look.

Best Met Ball Fashion Of Past

Last year Marion Cotillard wore an outfit from Christian Dior. It was a strapless two-tone dress with a sheer skirt embellished with crystals, which the star accessorized with Chopard jewelry.

The sheer trend was quite trendy at last year’s ball as Rooney Mara and Heidi Klum also went for gowns with sheer skirts.

Scarlett Johansson’s 2008 Met Ball Dolce & Gabbana dress was much simpler and looked more like a ballerina costume but it lacked the glitter and sparkle that often attracts attention, so I chose this one from same designer duo that has an emellished bodice and a tulle skirt. The actress paired it with Christian Louboutin heels and tousled slightly waved locks.

Leighton Meester looked fabulous in a Marchesa gown with a fluffy tulle skirt and sheer sleeves. The actress finished her look with Harry Winston jewelry and Tabitha Simmons shoes.

The lace applique in this dress beautifully contrasts with tulle skirt details that add airiness to the dramatic embroidery.

Beyonce’s black and purple sheer Givenchy gown with a feather train was a show-stopper at the last year’s ball, but I love the singer’s baroque black and gold custom-made Emilio Pucci gown a bit more. The turtleneck gave it a touch of restraint, while the open chest with lace trimming added sex appeal to the fishtail silhouette.

Wearing a white boho style Yves Saint Laurent gown Florence Welch looked simply goddess-like at the 2011 Met Ball. She finished the look with a white feather jacket, which she carried on one shoulder.

The best part of this gown is the sleeves. Voluminous with elongated cuffs, they accentuate Flo’s slender arms.

Daphne Guinness is known for her extravagant style and it definitely shows more on the red carpet. The socialite went for a feather Alexander McQueen gown with a voluminous skirt with assymetric hem.

The gown was made entirely out of feathers. The bodice featured sleek bigger feathers, while the skirt was more fluffy thanks to small fuzzy ones.

Taylor Swift looked peachy in a white Ralph Lauren dress with sleek ruffles and off-shoulder sleeves. Singer styled her dress with some jewelry and a signature red lipstick.

Simple cut of the dress made it more sublte while the sparkly ruffles added a touch of luxury to it. The singer’s sophisticated updo only added charm to this look.

In 2008 Dita Von Teese went for a black and white lace and feather Marchesa gown. Now I’m not a fan of a black lace over white dress details, but this particular design is so elegant and subtle I cannot help but like it. Teese went for a rare sleek updo and matched her manicure to the red lipstick.

Okay, this isn’t a dress but Alexa Chung looks smashing in this black tux with suspenders from Phillip Lim. The fashionista rocks a blazer thrown over her shoulders brilliantly. Her look was finished with a clutch and lacquered cage strap shoes.

Chung was not the only going for tux for Met Ball, Rihanna’s 2009 Met Ball outfit was a Dolce & Gabbana tux while singer Janelle Monae attended a 2011 Met Ball in a tux-inspired outfit.

Sophie Dahl Turns Fashion Designer With Brora

A thirty-six year-old has tried herself in several spheres including writing but now she’s exploring another side of fashion. Sophie Dahl has decided to start her own fashion line, which will be showcased in the Brora newest collection, out on April 15. The collection is rather small, consisting of only thirteen pieces, but as mentioned by Dahl herself, these are the pieces she herself would love to wear:

I imagined it as the-morning-after-the night-before – a woman on an island after a party, walking home with her shoes in her hands,” Dahl told us. “Everything around her quite wild and undone, but she’s wearing these quintessentially British-feeling colour tones and patterns. The picture in my head was one of rainy English summers and festivals, being tarted-up and having your make-up running everywhere – that kind of vibe.

This unexpected collaboration coincides with the brand’s 20th anniversary. The clothing line offers few pieces, but most of them have that distinct British allure to them. The collection consists of Marilyn marl jumper, tunic, pants, Cashmere shawl collar cardigan, silk embroidered camisole, and English rose maxi skirt. Among other clothes, there is Dahl’s favorite tea dress in small floral print and neutral color palette.

As you may know, Sophie Dahl was discovered in 1997, during a catwalk of Lainey Keogh’s first major show during London Fashion Week for Autumn 1997, where she was spotted by Vogue stylist Isabella Blow. Since then, her modeling career started to develop quite rapidly. She has appeared in ad campaigns of such renowned brands as Versace, Alexander McQueen, Patrick Cox, Pringle, Cashmere, Godiva, Banana Republic, and Gap. Now, she apparently wants to be back in fashion industry by presenting her own collection for Brora.

Menswear Trends Spring/Summer 2013

Metallics

From shiny suit fabrics to metallic finishes this Spring is all about the shine. Even shirts and shorts get metallic makeover. Pairing bold metallics with solids is a good idea as well as choosing only one item with metallic finish.

Another way to sport metallics is to opt for a subdued shiny suit in navy blue or pearl white and combine with a solid shirt. Brands Burberry Prorsum, Roberto Cavalli and Maison Martin Margiela went on to create metallic outerwear and even trousers and shirts whereas brands like Canali and Ermenegildo Zegna opted for shiny fabrics like satin.

Dries Van Noten combined camoflage prints in different colors as well as added different textures like lace, satin and fishnet. Choose different complementing camouflage prints for the outfit but avoid matching the top and the bottom or it will look more like a uniform.
