Betsey Johnson will always be Betsey Johnson and nobody else. This truly extraordinary woman has unveiled her Autumn-Winter 2010/2011 collection with all that sparkle and playfullness that is characteristic to her style.

Vibrant colors, ecentric designs and a creative approach to everything made this show unforgettable. Gorgeous Kelly Osbourne opened up the parade wearing a bandanna on her face. But then she suddenly tore it off and the audience realized that it was Wild West that had inspired the line.

Betsey said: “I’m working on my stuff, being very true-blue Betsey.” And it really was her but about 45 years ago!

I love the color palette: bright pink, burning scarlet, shining yellow, luxurious fuchsia and lots of other vivid hues that remind me about summer, childhood and fairy-tale characters. Dressed in colorful tutus, catsuits, faux fur jackets, funny frilled bloomers and other suchlike outfits the models looked cheerful and boisterous.

The designer claims the clothing can be worn at any season: “We’re not in seasons anymore, anyway. We’ll show a little bit of now and a lot of later.”

There were some rumors about Betsey Johnson’s plans to retire after her September show. But the designer has denied all those saying she will work until she is unable to do so.

She said:

I will never retire while I’ve still got my legs and my make-up box.”

In addition the Betsey Johnson fashion house commented:

With rich history and significant opportunities for future growth, Betsey Johnson wants her brand to live on forever. It is only wise that key management and talent is put in place to secure the continued health of the company for the future. Betsey Johnson will continue to provide creative inspiration and leadership as long as she is with us.”

All the rumors appeared after Betsey’s statement in a recent interview with NY Magazine that she might consider retiring soon. These are her actual words:

I should be retired. I’m basically screwing up because I’m not retired. I’d like to go in four days a month, something like that.

My partner and I, we both want to know what would it be like to get up in the morning and go, ‘What do I do today?’

So, it’s good news for those who love Betsey Johnson’s creations. Among those there are many celebrities including Courtney Love, Minnie Driver, Heather Graham and others.

Betsey Johnson is not going to present her collection for the runway-show at the New York fashion week in February.

She’s been a regular participant of the show at the Bryant Park tent for the last five seasons.

But last week it was confirmed that she decided to forgo staging her typical runway show for 1,000 retail buyers, media and celebrities at fashion week’s official venue.

The designer could not be reached for comment and her spokeswoman declined to comment on the reason she is not showing in Bryant Park.

Probably it is the same as Carmen Marc Valvo’s, who also refused to show his fall 2009 collection. He said it is the costs that don’t allow him to present his line in February.

Ms. Johnson’s spokeswoman said that the designer still plans to stage a show or presentation but has not decided on the format or location yet.

Tights have always been used to complement ladies’ outfits.

Dorothy Steps into the 21st Century with The Wizard of Oz Ruby Slipper Collection.

Well-armed fans of The Wizard of Oz looking for their own pair of red ruby slippers can choose from a collection made by 19 famous designers and decorated with red Swarovski crystals. The collection was presented September 4 at Saks Fifth Avenue, NY.

From platform to stiletto heels, all the shoes from the Ruby Slipper Collection, unveiled at a party to mark New York Fashion Week, are settled on the 1939 Hollywood movie starring Judy Garland as Dorothy.

What would Dorothy wear now?”’ Michael Fink, Saks Fifth Avenue fashion director, told Reuters in an interview.

Go wild! Have fun with it!’ That’s the only direction we gave the designers,” he added.

The Slipper collection was instructioned by Swarovski, which sacrificed the crystals, in partnership with Saks and Warner Brothers and contains shoes by a dozen designers ranging from Gwen Stefani, Abaete to Manolo Blahnik.

Betsey Johnson, who is known for whimsical women styles, used red tulle bows on a platform shoe with chunky crystals.

Dorothy’s a modern girl. She’s clubbing. So she’s got a downtown funky shoe with her little anklets,” Fink said, showing a display window at the store where a 20-something Dorothy mannequin wore a green mini-dress with Betsey’s ruby slippers to the Emerald Club.

Designer Jimmy Choo presented four-inch red snakeskin stilettos with ruby crystals on the vamp, while singer Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. gave Dorothy a pair with red satin ankle bows.

Shoe brand A. Testoni for the women’s and mens luxury market is specializing in exotic skins and luxury leathers, as shown in their “Ruby Slipper”. They have a passion for creating cosy fashion shoes. There is a Swarovski enchased heart on the bow of the shoe

The heart represents A. Testoni’s emotion for creating shoes that is snug as well as where Dorothy’s heart was and wanted to be at home.

Designer Alberta Ferretti took part in this project and designed a pair of ruby wedges.

Each pair is worth at least $1000, adding that plain leather couture shoes at Saks begin at $650.
