Georgina Chapman was able to surprise everyone at her Marchesa Spring /Summer 2012 fashion show. Not only simpler designs were unexpected but also the fact the collection was demonstrated as a fashion show, not an exhibition.

Unveiled during New York Fashion Week Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2012 collection was chic and simple at the same time. Although there were plenty of ‘wow’ gowns with flounces, beading, and embroidery there were also dresses that marked a huge difference from Chapman’s usual craftsmanship. First of all it was the fringing that the designer used extensively, but it didn’t look the way it normally does, it was classy and totally elegant. Made in silver and golden colors the dresses looked fantastic.

The dresses which attracted me a lot in Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2012 collection were made of chiffon but elaborate crystal beading was seen through the sheer fabric. It looked really amazing.

Emma Watson (Know all about Emma Watson), who plans to continue her education at Oxford, has been taking special classes necessary for designing and making clothing. She has studied fabric-cutting, design and sewing.

Emma Watson plans to work on a range of eveningwear and hopes someone really professional like Georgina Chapman or Sarah Burton would want to work with her.

A source close to Emma revealed:

Emma wants to challenge herself creatively. She’s obsessed with art at the moment. She’s already designed a line of T-shirts and wants to expand her skills to create bespoke eveningwear. She looks up to designers such as Georgina Chapman and Sarah Burton. She has also been studying the work of Joan Miro to inspire her.”

Georgina said:

We take a more sales-driven approach to this collection.”

The dresses in Marchesa Resort 2012 collection are very beautiful though. Made of luxurious fabrics pieces in the range come in simpler but still attractive designs. There are fewer floor-length gowns with more dresses created to party by the pool and cocktails.

Marchesa Resort 2012 collection features bright saturated colors. Two purple dresses are the most eye-catching. Golden mini dress looks sumptuous, and those other pieces with golden embroidery are lovely, too.

My best pick in Marchesa Resort 2012 collection is the snowy white sheath dress with sheer organza embellished with rhinestones hanging down all the way at the back and front part of the gown.

The harem-panted jumpsuits, cut in lace and finished with little bolero jackets and jewel-crusted clutches, were far from casual but they could not compete with over twenty dresses that were literally breathtaking.

Inspired by somewhat oriental motives Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2011 collection features heavily bejeweled necklines, hand-painted florals on rolling sculptural drapes, and even looking-precious pieces that were attached to models’ foreheads.

The Marchesa Spring/ Summer 2011 runway show gathered lots of big names in Hollywood, including Jessica Szohr, Kelly Osbourne, Kelly Brook, Olivia Palermo and Gabourey Sidibe.

The range is fabulous as all the previous and future ranges by this designer. Inspired by tribal motives some dresses look unusual and pretty but unlike Missoni’s Resort 2011 tribal prints Chapman’s are more feminine and adorned with feathers, fringe, beading, and hand embroidery.

Taking into account the fact Marchesa designer is pregnant now it comes as no surprise that a number of garments in the Resort 2011 line are loose enough so that growing bump cold fit in. Georgina even joked:

I guess I’ve been a little selfish.”

Describing her collection she also noted:

Combining a tribal look with the kind of dresses we usually do made everything seem playful.”

And that playfulness is seen through matching cropped leggings, black turbans and armfuls of chunky bangles mixed with classy and chic dresses.

She said:

I’ve been changing all my dresses, adding elastic and things like that. I wouldn’t mind doing maternity wear, having gone through this.”

Taking into account the fact Georgina designs cute red-carpet dresses we can expect the line to be real luxury.

Plenty of lace, tulle, organza and other luxury fabrics are always the most used materals when collections of Marchesa are created. Autumn/ Winter 2010/ 2011 season is not an exception.

Neon-colored or classic black or white, these dresses impress with their beauty and elaboration. Each includes lots of details that took days to finish. Pretty cuts and unusual shapes of the frocks will make any wearer absolutely unique.

Some dresses come with feathers and fluffs that make the illusion of airiness and ultimate chic. There is a lot of embroidery and patterns either. The dress with a white pleated skirt and black pattern on a transparent fabric of top and hose looks stunning.

One more gown astonished me. It is total white but somehow it has a silver tint, when in the light it looks like metal.
