It was not easy for Sarah Burton to take after Alexander McQueen in the brand founded by the genius deceased designer but she was able to cope and went even further. She designed the wedding dress for Duchess of Cambridge, the dress that was named one of the most beautiful wedding dresses of all ever created. So, the title that Harper’s Bazaar gave to Burton yesterday – Designer of the Year – was well-deserved.

Sarah Burton received the accolade at the Harper’s Bazaar’s Women of the Year Awards that was held at Claridge’s Hotel in London last night. She wasn’t the only one to be honored at the event. Designer Tom Ford was presented with Man in a Woman’s World award. Actress Helena Bonham-Carter took the Role Model of the Year prize. Models Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, Yasmin Le Bon and Cindy Crawford all were named Fashion Icons of the Year.

Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen and Eva Herzigova are known as supermodels of the nineties. But they make another comeback with their cover of September 2011 issue of Spanish Vogue. All three supermodels are dressed in Dolce & Gabbana star-printed dresses and are showing off their mild long legs in towering heels. The trio of supermodels who are in their late 30s and early 40s look great on the magazine cover shot by Tom Munro.

Supermodels get their own separate spreads in the magazine each named with the models’ names and shot by different photographers. Helena Christensen poses in a series of shots by Miguel Reveriego wearing some hot pants, bras and open button denim shirts. Though the outfits don’t look quite wearable.

Eva Herzigova poses in a series of shots by Paola Kudacki with a head of curls in some classy outfits. The 38 year-old supermodel wears almost no makeup and looks beautiful in her photo spread “Eva”.

Claudia Schiffer dons wide-brim hats, fur, and dresses looking stunning in her black and white photo set by Tom Munro.

The fashion insiders say that the models are making comeback to fashion magazine covers  because the economy of today doesn’t let mags spend more money on inviting a celebrity. So don’t expect to see only celebrities on fashion magazine covers this September. The faces you will also see are those of Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Natalia Vodianova, Heidi Klum, and Karlie Kloss.

Cindy Crawford has spoken about the industry changes that had less and less job opportunities for models these days as celebrities become faces of collections, brands, and campaigns. Emma Watson received Style Icon Award. The Harry Potter actress commented:

It feels amazing. Fashion is something that I love. I try not to think about it too much. I try and block all that off and I just do what I love and just have fun with it. I’ve definitely been feeling the pressure a bit more recently but it’s just fun for me.”

Natalie Portman, who missed the event due to her pregnancy, was named the Best Actress while Blake Lively received Best TV Star award. Blake looked beautiful on the red carpet wearing one of Emilio Pucci gorgeous designs.

Tom Ford was awarded the International Designer at Elle Style Awards 2011. He deserves it, no doubt. I’m glad he’s returned to womenswear. He’s good at it.

The title of British Designer was given to Christopher Kane Courtney. Congratulations!!!

Coco Rocha was named the Best Model. And Outstanding Contribution to Fashion went to Helena Christensen.

Noomi Rapace was honored the Next Breakthrough Talent while the Best Accessory Designer award was presented to Emma Hill.

Cheryl Cole, who appeared at 2011 Elle Style Awards wearing a red-hot floor-sweeping dress, was given Best Music accolade.

Dominic Jones received Best Jewellery Designer and Meadham Kirchoff was awarded with Next Young Designer.

The model-and-actress has recently deigned a bag for Tommy Hilfiger to benefit breast cancer. Milla, who has previously had her own fashion label, Jovovich-Hawk, with catwalk beauty Carmen Hawk said about her new creation: “It’s an honour to be part of this campaign. I hope that together we can change the life of thousands of people who are affected by this horrible disease.”

The red holdall will with be available to buy next month.

Milla, who is also an ambassador for Hilfiger’s Breast Health International, isn’t the only celebrity who uses her designing skill to help people in suffer. Supermodel Helena Christensen has also created an oversized Momosa yellow leather tote bag for the campaign.

This year the initiative was supported by supermodel Helena Christensen, who designed an oversized Momosa yellow leather tote bag. Besides, famous windsurfer Robby Nash is to work with Tommy Hilfiger as a face for ad campaign for a line of men’s tailored pieces.

Milla already has some experience in designing. The model-and-actress has previously had her own fashion label – Jovovich-Hawk – in collaboration with catwalk beauty Carmen Hawk. The line was unveiled in 2003.

On motherhood making it harder to date:

I think it’s a good thing actually. Because your child is your first priority, you’re more selective, so in order to let someone into that world, they have to be really special You cut out the bullshit that you might fall for if you didn’t have responsibilities.”

On dating creative types:

It’s really about what circles you move in. There’s just a bigger chance of me running into someone in the entertainment business. I don’t have anything against meeting a cool, funny doctor or lawyer, it just hasn’t really happened. It’d be good to have a doctor in the house!”

On turning 40 last December:

Age in itself doesn’t freak me out. I’m in better shape than I was at 25 because I’m actually doing something physical, which I never did until two years ago because I was way too lazy. I’m still really lazy about it. I try to go boxing twice a week and I run, but after exactly 21 minutes, I’m ready to lie down and vomit. I’m super-lucky with my metabolism. I eat more than anyone I know, so I have to be realistic – that might not always be the situation. That’s why I chose really intense training. It was a question of, if I want to continue eating that much, I need to balance it out.”

On food:

Oh my God, I’m obsessed! It takes up 75 per cent of my brain. I cook every day for my son and even if I’m going out for dinner, I’ll have a bite of what I made for him and then be like, ‘Oh, there’s three hours left until dinner’, and, suddenly, I’ve eaten a whole bowl.”

On cohabiting:

I’ve never lived with anyone except my son… because my life is travel, so it just happened that way. It’s not like I set out to live like that, but now it would be a big thing to move in with somebody. I’m used to my own place, my own things. But you know, if I met the right person, I’m sure I’d be like, ‘Move in tomorrow, put your things everywhere’. That would probably work for a while and then I’d need a bit of balance!”

“Finished in the finest French croc, their structured forms and exotic detailing create a statement of pure luxury,” he adds.

We’ve heard nothing about Matthew Williamson for nearly two years. And his chic designs are set to make a comeback on the rails of high street department store Debenhams next year as part of its designer womenswear collection.

Financial Mail reports that Williamson, who kept on working with the store designing accessories and lingerie, will once again join the likes of Antoni & Alison, Julien Macdonald and Jasper Conran, who all produce diffusion ranges with Debenhams at present time.

Next year we’ll witness the opening of a new store in New York that signifies about a completely new phase in the designer’s  creative work.

2009 is going to be a busy year for Matthew Williamson, who in the past has collaborated with Monsoon and worked as the artistic director of Pucci.

Celebrity support remains key to the business and clients include: Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, Britney Spears, Kate Hudson and Helena Christensen.

His S/S 2009 collection was presented on New York Fashion Week in September.

IT was really about looking back at last spring/summer,” Matthew Williamson said backstage after his show in Bryant Park, complete with front row devotees Petra Nemcova, Daisy Lowe and Kelley Osbourne.

“Looking at that collection and thinking, it is very girl on a vacation. So this season I wanted to explore the same idea but give it a sense of ‘what if she doesn’t have a vacation to go on?’ – hence the structure and the tailoring. So it was a little bit more of an overall wardrobe.”

The style of collection was:

Pants like cigarette a few inches above the ankle were exposed in bright yellow, with two shown front-zipper pockets, and mixed with a matching blazer in a thinly lined black acid kaleidoscope pattent.

Another perfectly framed skinny pant viewed in a bright fruit pierce red satin, pleated down the front with a folded in white tank, and then layered with a vest. It was in an ultra-bright pink satin with stiff front folds and wide shoulders.

Williamson’s show was even more fab as it progressed into a combo of his signature prints, exotic and ethnic detailing, for example, the floral fancywork and glass beads and sequins outlining a square neckline.

The colour moving brocades that the designer’s known for were presented on the catwalk as well.

The Danish supermodel Helena Christensen plays a pirate queen in the new released ad video.

Suitably named ‘Pirate Provocateur’, the video is made by Tim Bret Day and also features Alice Dellal, the fashion insurgent and daughter of former Brazilian model Andrea Dellal and property tycoon, Guy Dellal.

The video is inspired by Hogarth’s ‘A Rake’s Progress and ‘Strolling actresses in a Barn’.

The act takes place in the depths of a galleon with much drunken and libertined revel, featuring a posse of pirate-princesses in frail pieces of lace, toting angers.

Pirate Queen Helena comes in a red lace basque, brandishing a dagger, and succeeds in seducing the captain of the ship who is unaware he is being robbed blind and facing a mutiny.

All that is missing is Jack Sparrow. But what a rampageous way to sell lingerie collection!
