The range included a few luxurious and sophisticated dresses but mostly it was rather humble and more ready-to-wear than usual.

The designer said:

I’ve been thinking about camping. It’s a theme I always return to—anoraks, parkas, Eskimos, plaid, quilting.”

Exactly these pieces we saw on the runway – many variations of those. Warm anoracks, quited jackets, hooded cardigans and pretty coats looked great. And some came together with evening gowns.

But the focus of the attention was a coctail dress. Some of those were bright and glitzy, others came in dark reserved colors.

The entire collection looked good, very wearable. But I do love Issac Mizrahi for his eveningwear and hope the next range will correspond to my taste more.

Knotting and draping

Nothing complicated. The role model to be copied is Ancient Greek clothes. Fits perfectly and glosses any shortcomings over. Im totally into Burberry’s dresses!

Legs in shorts

Summer is a perfect season to show the strongest weapon of all women- legs. It is high time to use it. Watch out, guys! It’s up to you which one to choose tap pants from Cynthia Rowley or some micro shorts by Balmain ,short shorts and boy shorts by Blumarine or hotpants from Mark Jacobs.  You’ll hot in any of them!

Sheer

Light see-through dresses and blouses are a good way to turn up the heat this spring. They are so sexy but never vulgar. So don’t be afraid to choose some chiffon dress for a party like Vera Wang’s or the tiny one by Versace.

Blazer

Top the feminine dress with an austere blazer. Pair the pantsuit with some high heals-  elegance is our strength, girls!

Prints, and moreover patterned pants!

This summer is so rich in prints even our trousers are no longer to be block color. Some sweet patterned pants were spotted at Matthew Williamson and Luella, DKNY, Etro, Balenciaga , Anna Sui’s fashion shows.

There is a huge variety of print patterns to wear: stripes, florals, graphic prints and abstract shapes.In any of them  you’ll look fashionable.

Touch of sparkle

The trend that is built to last. The only rule: try to be chic not showy

Belts

Show off your curls and accentuate it with a skinny (like Pringle of Scotland and Paul Smith) or wide leather belts (Oscar de la Renta and Gucci). Every fashionista knows the right way to wear them!

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits keep abandoning runways and our lives too! I would say more: jupsuits are must-haves this summer!  They are so easy to wear. Pair your jumpsuit with some big accessories and you won’t leave a party unnoticed.  The one like Vera Wang’s will do the thing!

Nudity and ice-cream colors

The vast majority of shows opened up with all shades of nude, peach and lavender colors (Donna Karan, Versace, Burberry, Miu Miu)

While some people might be scared that wearing nude will make them look pale or washed out, this can be a colour that anyone can embrace.

White

White is definitely a summer color. Laconic clear lines and the noblest color together will give you tremendous effect.

So hit the ivory coast with an all-white palette of romantic and immaculate looks in everything from softly tailored pantsuits(Gucci) to whipped-up, airy little dresses like Cacharel’s.

A group of world-famous designers were asked to help raise money for a charity organisation that deals with homeless families and women who lost everything but want to get back on their feet.

The task was easy and creative – just right for a designer – to decorate small papier-mâché houses which would later be sold on auction.

Among those who found time and desire to help were Oscar de la Renta, Issak Mizrahi, Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Victoria and David Beckham, Justin Timberlake and lots of other celebrities who had hardly ever dealt with designing but wanted to do something useful for people who suffer.

The houses that we got in the result were pretty little things – colorful and spirited – which might go under a Christmas tree.

Vera Wang’s house was the most delicate and exquisite. The designer decorated it with lace, crystals, and flowers. Very nice to look at!

Isaac Mizrahi made the cutest house. He used a lot of pink and sparkle.

Oscar de la Renta’s house is simple but sophisiticated just like his clothes – nothing looks out of place.

Diane Von Furstenberg brough her feeling of fashion into the house design. It is all about patterns and positive attitude.

Donna Karan’s house looks dark and inhospitable from the outside but it is very nice and cosy inside.

Justin Timberlake worked on behalf of his fashion line and marked his house with William Rast logo. The house is in men’s style: very simple.

The action has been held on Charitybuss.com from November 9 and will last to November 30. Be fast to get a piece from couture and bring use to the society.

Fashion options for bigger persons are getting fewer by the day due to economic recession. Well-known brands including Ellen Tracy and Ann Taylor have eliminated or downsized production. Besides, department stores like Bloomingdale‘s have decreased space for the collections or even dropped them.

It’s almost as if certain retailers have said, “I’ll worry about losing these customers later on,” says Andrew Jassin, managing director of retail consultancy Jassin-O’Rourke Group.

Taking into consideration the fact an average American woman weighs 164 pounds and is a size 14, there are so many customers abandoned by retailers. I think this will provoke great discontent in public soon.

However, somehow we can understand the producers. Plus-size lines are expensive to make—as much as 10% more than standard ranges – because they require additional materials and special fit models and patterns.

Besides, like many other consumers, the plus-size customers don’t buy much now. And sales of big sizes (generally 16 and over) fell 8% for the 12 months from the year-earlier period, when the drop was about 4% (the information was provided by trend tracker NPD Group Inc.).

To compare, sales of regular women’s sizes fell only 2% for the last year, while the petite sector had just a slight decline.

They’re really bargain shoppers,” says Catherine Schuller, a plus-size expert and former editor at Mode, a magazine for larger women. “Many are homemakers who can’t spend considerable amounts on clothes and are willing to sacrifice their own spending for their families, especially now”.

Some time ago plus-size fashion industry was very profitable. Many world-famous designers started working in this sphere. Among those were such big names as Tommy Hilfiger and Donna Karan. Even glossy magazines specializing on fashion for plus-sizes appeared, for example, Mode and Figure.

But the tendency of growing interest wasn’t supported by style bibles as Vogue and the fashion began to disappear. Then it worsened again when Liz Claiborne began restructuring two years ago, and the clothier terminated Elisabeth, which focused on plus sizes. Last year, it also closed Sigrid Olsen, a popular line that had a dedicated plus-size collection, and Ellen Tracy was sold as well.

That brand, which is now a division of Fashionology Group, has given up the plus-size business this season due to the lack of orders from upscale retailers as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus for Ellen Tracy’s exit.

[The stores] felt it was not an area they wanted to support,” says Chief Operating Officer Kenneth Ragland.

But we cannot say that there is no future for plus-size industry at all. As a matter of fact many bigger people prefer to do shopping online and this allows retailers to develop business in a virtual way.

Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Old Navy have moved their larger sizes to e-commerce. Saks still offers six plus-size brands in its stores but suggests more than 20 on its Web site.

And there are still designers who create for the market. For example, Eileen Fisher and Isaac Mizrahi for Liz Claiborne.

Moreover, fast-fashion retailers Forever 21and Target recently began testing plus size divisions which would be aimed at teens and women in their 20s or early 30s.

There’s nothing around that has a hip, cool feel to it,” says model and spokesperson Emme.

“There’s a size category that’s not being satisfied, and that’s the [plus size].”

Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Isaac Mizrahi, Vera Wang, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder and John Demsey are among A-listers invited to the seventh annual “An Enduring Vision” benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation that will be held at Cipriani Wall Street on November 11.

Elton John and David Furnish are honorary chairs of the benefit. Special honorees this year are comedian and actor Tim Allen; Bill and Tani Austin, founders of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, and Johnny and Edwina Barbis, board members of John’s foundation.

The event will feature special performances by Sir Elton and Gladys Knight, and a live auction with Jamie Niven, vice chairman of Sotheby’s North and South America. Anderson Cooper is expected to be the emcee for the night.

According to the reports, the event hopes to raise $3 million for John’s AIDS Foundation.

Fashion designers attempted to lighten a dismal public mood and mind for their spring – summer collections 2009 with a sunny evolution of the popular fall palette of aubergine, midnight blue and mustard.

For spring, they’re building marigold, lighter lilac, teal.

Mizrahi’s new position will have him designing clothes that fall between fast fashion and the couture lab”

Isaac Mizrahi presenting his fashion collection yesterday, Sept. 8, during NYFW, took his inspiration from the insect world. His collection named “Swarm” had dresses in the spirit of dragonflies, beetles, and even roaches.

Serious designer fashion included draped gown covered in orange pailettes, white-on-while jacquard leopard-moth sheath dress, white beetlebride gown, with a wrap-style top and full white ballskirt, as well as coats and dresses that closed like a paper wrapper.

Neon underpinnings mixed couture and sport; fuzzy, caterpillar-like skirts, ball gown with a crackled pattern in gold were noteworthy.

One of the distinguishing features of the collection were coatdresses. A coatdress in a “squash-cricket” print, and a dragonfly wingsilk coatdress in dark green with black stitching and lime green lining were among ready-to-wear designs.

Many of the silhouettes had corset tops, one of  NYFW trends.

The most classic Mizrahi look was the beekeeper’s dress, with a tight bustier top and a puffy skirt with alternating layers of fabric and netting.

Mizrahi also presented shapeless dresses that he called pupas.

I love Peanuts because it represents a theme in my childhood to do with not fitting in, with being an outsider,” said Mizrahi, who designed a dress based on an outfit Brown would have worn-had he been a woman.
